So I've been using ableton for all of 3 days, and so far I've been running into an obscene amount of problems using rex files. In the book ableton live 7 Power! (not too impressed with the book so far either) It says that REX files self contain slice and timing information that will be used to match it to the current tempo. The problem is, it keeps getting the tempo wrong. I've run into this problem with two different audio files: one is a file that I had to manually warp in order to fit it to tempo (because the tempo fluctuates throughout the song [it's Neutral Milk Hotel's song Ghost off of the album In the Airplane over the Sea.]) another is a drum loop that stays the same tempo. For some reason when I put the two together the drum loop goes out of sync with the NMH loop (the drum loop is faster). So that sucks. I don't really know what to do about it. Every "let the computer take control" feature should have an off button. THis is annoying. And you should be able to warp rex files. I don't care if the information is self contained, it isn't always right- especially when the track is recorded manually from vinyl. If the record is warped at all there will be a noticeable fluctuation in tempo as well as pitch.
Off buttons. Yep. I'm a genius, I know.
REX file warping
so are you talking about rex files, or audio files?
you say you warped the NMH track - so it must be an audio file?
or are you calling Recycle processing "warping" - that could lead to confusion
more details please...
you have a rex drum loop, let's say 1 bar. you are saying that it does not play 1 bar long in ableton?
