Help:Realtime external guitar effects into software amp sim

Post by FrigginEH » Sun Jul 13, 2008 7:12 pm

Hi gang. I just moved to London from Seattle.

My gear is still on a boat, so I can't try it myself right now, but due to the particulars of my flat, there's no chance of using an amp to record my guitar tracks as I originally hoped. I think my only hope is to use my external pedal effects in conjunction with a software based amp simulator.

I'm new to reamping. I'm wondering if someone can help. Basically - I have a bunch of killer pedals, a good reamp box, and two good quality DI boxes - one active and one passive.

I have a RME Fireface 400 and MacBook Pro 2.2ghz, 2mg RAM, Logic Studio, Ableton Suite.

I guess I want my signal path to look something like this:

guitar>> FF400 >> Reamp >> pedals >> FF400 >>Logic Pro Amp sim...>>Out Monitors/Headhones to my ears...

Will I be able to do this with less than 10ms latency? I'm hoping I can multitrack guitars like this. What's the best way to do this and do you think I can jam/write like this (in "realtime")?

Thanks!

That would work..
Alternatively you could look into getting a load box for your actual amp.
I have a Palmer http://www.palmergear.com/pga04.shtml..
You can get some great amp tones using these types of things.
Add in some IR's of actual speakers in logics sound designer and your golden.

If you do go the software route then i would recommend using the active DI in front of the fire face... even if the FF has a high z input..
