however, you will be on the 3g network - which some people would gladly $250 for

Apple did a good job on the pricing and service - they didn't screw over the original users and the new users are getting what they're paying for

all in all its a good day to have an Iphone :)
Mine's on order, it is more expensive than the service I have now, but I have an unseeingly good plan, ($40 for 1500 minutes), and no internet etc.

The simple fact that people will be making nice step sequencers, Kaos Pad type MIDI controllers, and that I can write it off as a business expense, ( I need a decent sync-able calendar, camera, and GPS), makes the price difference negligible IMO. A plan for a competing system is maybe at best $15 cheaper, and isn't dead tight with OSX, or Windows for that matter.

Great movie! That swamp is named Bellevue/Redmond/Renton... Mainly I need the Google Maps for contacts etc. and ability to organize incoming job emails into folders for months etc. Shit? you can save HTML as text on the iPhone right? That would seriously suck if I couldn't. :?

Pandora is sweet for sure. Now I can listen to Pandora radio in my car and find new artists.

Shazam is one of the most amazing apps I've seen. Been showing it off all weekend. Even G4 tv was hyping it up.

Karajan is a great teaching tool for musicians - it tests you on intervals, chords, pitch, scales, and bpm. You can learn on the go.

GuitarToolKit has a guitar tuner, chord library, and metronome.

Voice Record is great for getting musical ideas down real quick. You used to have to buy a secondary piece of hardware to record into the phone.

SportsTap - up to minute sport scores. Pretty sweet.

Weatherbug - has real time doppler radar, humidity, wind speed and direction, heat index, precipitation amount, etc. Much more detailed than the default weather app.

Facebook and MySpace apps are much better, faster, and more streamlined than checking them via Safari.

There's some sweet language apps too that would be useful for traveling to foreign countries w/ different languages. You can just put in the phrase you want (it has a list of common phrases for d/f situations) and will pronounce it for you or the intended recipient if you don't feel like trying.

Motion Poker X is digital crack, Tap Tap and Aurora Feint are awesome for free games, and Critter Crunch is another top time-waster.

Also the 'remote' app is dead handy for me.

Do any of these iphone apps have midi in/out capability yet? I've only heard about people using it as a wireless midi remote controller using wifi.

+1

What's the word on actually getting the iPhone to sync up? There's one existing method (the name escapes me), but it was batty as shit. Plus, there was some serious voodoo involved.

There's one YouTube vid where some guy has the iPhone sync'd up with Logic and the new IR 909 app, but he mentions that it was a pain in the ass. Drum machines and sequences are cool on the iPhone and all, but when is some cat gonna do a proper wifi interface? *fingers crossed*

Yeah, Aurora Feint is REALLY cool, can't believe it's free.

Hopefully we see some more music apps soon ala Bhajis Loops, that's what I really want too.
