I just turn it on and jam man.starving student wrote:if you own a 3000 you should know that live cannot groove like a 3000, or I'd love to be wrong about that, how are you achieving things in Live?
I don't have any problem gettin' my groove on with Live.
It's not what you use, it's how you use it. I can get the same type of swing out of Live that I do with a MPC. As a matter of fact, I can get the same type of swing out of Reason and Sonar as well. It's all about knowing your tools.

Cheers for the thoughts, guys. I recon I'll probably look at either an MPD32 (if I can get my hands on a new laptop any time soon) or a used MPC200XL (for controlling Live and getting the chuff away from a screen to write!).
The 500 is kinda written off now, as it's not got a 'full' complement of pads (thanks Kirb). I never knew that the 'To MPC or not to MPC' question would spark such a debate!

I've sold my MPC 1000 a few months back to afford a Machinedrum.
It served me well over 5 years and was fun to use for controlling the computer and
partly sampling (but software ever does this job better / more comfortable).
Now that i nearly never use samples anymore, a MPC is senseless to me (maybe the sequencer is not).
best thing :
i paid 800 € at this time. i worked the thing for 5 years. i got 620€ on the bay of e........nice worthkeeping....

yep thats true , the mpc-1000 has been going up in the used sector, i got mine for around $400 but now they keep rising because of the jj os, the mpc 1000 is not just on par but over par the mpc 2500, and it has so many synth features it is not the same machine at all due to the jj os.
if intrested def check out jjs site because even if you got the jj os 3 months ago he's been steadily upgrading the features.
this is definitley not your dads mpc

MPCs can develop a problem of dead pads, something about a later generation of them using a different system. unless you can try it first, don't do it, someone might be pawning one off on you.chrisedmo wrote:Sorry to hijack the thread but i have the chance of buying an MPC1000 for £150 ? If you're like me and think as an mpc of an additional way to expand your creative horizons, the mpc 500 is a must have.
Of course i looked into buying the 1000 with jap-mod, but the portability really makes it for me. I use it in a totally different way then i would with other models. I prepare samples and transfer them to the cf-card to be able to just pick it up when i travel and be able to bang out beats no matter where i am. YES, i HAVE been using a laptop and a padkontrol when travelling but the mpc 500 is alot more fun and not being able to totally nerd out by tweaking needless stuff while on a plane really adds to the productivity.
When i'm ready to spend the big bucks on a mpc, i'm getting the 5000, which is a great deal with the recent price drop on all their models, but even when I do that, i'm still going to use my mpc 500, which is more than i could say if i bought the 1000.
