Upgrading from 4.03 to 4.04

Hi!
I've tried to install the update (4.04) but it wouldn't install in the same directory (meaning - overwriting) as the version 4.03. What's your guys' routines when upgrading?

Uninstalling the old version first?

Installing the new version and then simply deleting the old version's catalogue with all files in it (ehm, this is what I did and the new version is working fine)

It will NOT over write prevous versions .
I have one Ableton directory with 3.01 ,3.04 ,4.0.1 ,4.0.3 and 4.0.4
All my VSTi's and VSt effects are in the 3.01 install folder/browser .
They all work fine side by side.
You can however uninstall any other version if you so wish.
After installing a new version.
I prefer not too but that's just me .
