Problem recording multiple tracks

Post by forssto » Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:05 pm

Hey all!

I've got a problem using Live as a multi track virtual studio. I've used it for a while now as a master sequencer when playing live with an electronic band, but I tried to make some rehearsal space demos with another band by recording 8 tracks straight to Live (through my firewire audio interface, Focusrite Saffire Pro 10/10).

Everything went just great apart from the problem that after about some 3-4 minutes into each song live started bugging out real badly. The first symptom was always that the GUI would just freeze and go unresponsive. Sometimes that didn't matter, though, since after the song ended and I clicked the space bar to stop recording, Live would just take a few secs to gather itself, draw the audio to the tracks and everything would be just hunky-dory.

BUT every now and then the result would be that some recorded clips would have some areas grayed out. The audio curve would still be there, but the area is grayed out and if I play back the recording at ANY point (grayed out or not), the tracks with any gray in them whatsoever would not play back at all. Then if I save the project, close Live and reopen everything Ableton would tell me that some samples could not be loaded and the clips would just show "sample offline".

That obviously points to some corrupted samples, but as this seemed to happen every time we tried a song longer than about 4 minutes. I know that it's never appropriate to write songs that long, but still... I'd like to be able to record audio for longer.

There's plenty of room on my HD, it's all partitioned and error-checked. I have an Acer Aspire 9520 laptop I'm rollin' with. It's got Windows XP SP2 as the OS with ALL unnecessities turned off.

I tried raising my latency (both ASIO buffer + Firewire-latency) many times, to the point where it was ridiculously high, but that didn't seem to have too much of an effect on anything.

My Live version is 7.0.2.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thanks for all help!!!
