New to using simpler and impulse

Hey. The idea of Live's simpler and impulse to create audio is new to me. I'm used to only using patches off of my triton.

Can I get as cool of sounds once I learn these instruments or will my bass - for instance - always sound the same?

Also, can I import my own samples into these devices/instruments to make my own sounds.

Thanks for your patience for the newbie.

hey, bud, wasup.

you can get most of the info on those instruments from the manual or a search on the forums.

i personally don't use simpler, as i find my collection of vst samplers are far superior, but i have messed around with impulse and i find myself using it more and more for my drum kits.

impulse gives a good amount of flexibility and uses very little cpu. as oppose to my kontakt or battery vsti which are cpu hogs, relatively speaking.

Oh you don't know what you're missing out on people.
Simpler can do some very very clever things with a bit of imagination and an external sample editor when modulating sample loop and start points in realtime

yeah, yeah, i know

im just so overwhelmed (and ive spent so much $$$ on native instruments) that i find it hard to go away from them.

Yeah, but how on earth does it work?? i can't get a single sound out of either Impulse or Simpler!!! Help!!

Indeed. I have read the manual from back to front, and I'm still struggling.
I guess the use of the

in my last past kind of proves the existence of my powers of perception ie I know it's a dopey question. I am a DJ by trade and am branching out into Live to improve myself, but the fact of the matter is, there are 10 year old kids that know more about this kind of stuff than I do. Sarcastic comments and advice all welcome.

Hey R,

open impulse or simpler in a MIDI track, then import any wav or aif files inside Simpler or Impulse then play the keys on the piano roll, you should hear the samples...

Who says you have to use all these ? Live is a great DJ tool without the instruments. If you want to cross over to actually making music it is a better idea to learn music first, then learning how to use samplers or whatever.
When I moved to electronic music, realised quickly that my skills as guitarist and percussionist are not enough, unless upgrade my keyboards abilities, cant develop. So I took some time for that, wont become Joe Zawinul but some base is essential. How far you want to go depend on you but it wont be waste of money and time, even little will push you ahead. No specific tip will help you unless you have a bigger picture.

Here's a tip.
Load a drum loop into Simpler at the same project tempo as your current project.
Set the loop points to the size of a single hit and set it to loop.
Filter / ADSR etc / Tune to taste.
Import a pre-programmed bass-line pattern.
Set Simpler to mono

Drag a few of the hit's out to quater note durations.
Modulate the looppoints via clip envelopes.
Apply a redux - ditto with the clip envelopes.
Now chuck say a filtered delay with the high/lowend filters off and just add delay on the mid range.
Eq to taste - sounds a tad sick on this track I'm doing but it took me ages to modulate the loop points just how i wanted them .

this sounds awesome to try, i can hear it in my head without actually doing this yet...

I busy enough with the music I am currently working on, but now I know what to do if I miss new ideas. Just started with your tip and... done some wild absolutely nutty stuff. I am obviously using fraction of Live potential.
These Ableton fellas gave me great value for money.
