Audio clips within audio clips ,
its beyond annoying having to zoom and expand tracks to make the audio wave form large enough to "split" then having to zoom out and fold tracks to see the arrangement again.
Its beyond me why it was ever made like this, makes much more sense to double click the clip and bring up an editor so u can slice and arrange the audio then close the editor to return to the arrangement view to find it how u left it. This also means that u can select and arrange all the slices by selecting the one clip in the arrangement view. then maybe we could have someone scissors in the edit view having to control E to make a split is sill it should be a one click operation once u have your scissors out...

I disagree, the last thing you want is a bunch of windows overlapping eachother and mocking up the slick interface. Then it takes another mouse click to close that window. The way live expands the windows is genius and they invented it, now all other sequences have followed and evolved that way. I have personally sold ableton live when it was in version one, based on showing audio geeks how easy it is to move around and expand audio down to the sample and at light speed. Of course this changes when you have a huge arrangement, that they could work on.
I do agree, they need a scissor tool with options.

Takes a lot longer to zoom in and position every part of a wav file for editing than to double click to open and and then ctrl alt L to close.
and i have 26" wide screen so screen real estate is not my problem
So u select to edit the clip with a key command (ctrl shift ?).You make your slices and come up with your new arrangement then ctrl alt L to take you back to the arrangement now u have tidy clip to further arrange in your song and the view is how you left it . from there every time you double click on the clip it takes you to the editor or if you cntl J the clip consolidates and audio files are dealt with as normal ( double click takes you to warp mode)
I bet i can execute two key commands faster than u can zoom in and out and if im edditing say 12 clips to make a comp track i would go as far as to say i could do it 10 times quicker not to mention the fact that you would then be able to drag out the clip to loop all the slices within the clip which would further speed things up

Its just what your proposing is still mocking up the interface by adding an additional window on top of a window, your thinking too much like a cubase or logic user, why make live behave like the all the other sequencers. Its not about screen real estate, I have a 37" LCD. Every function that needs to be accessed consistently needs to be a double click or a right click and or a simple hot key. Im not sure how long you have been a user but if you noticed Ableton has stayed away from creating layers. I have sequencers like that, thats while I only use them to mix and not so much as creative arrangement tools, spend half the day moving, closing and accessing layers and menu's...Annoying, thats not being creative. The more time you spend using live, of its purpose, that being, making music on the fly, you will realize how well the ware is designed and why it can't go in some directions.
You went from talking about editing one clip to now 12 at a time. Also when you say clips, you must be referring to the clip view? I was speaking more from the session view.
BTW I think there is a short cut for expanding the screen from full back to normal size. I do remember one version having something like this and it was great until you had a session that was bogging down the cpu.

im asking for an edit mode , if your style doesn't benefit from it then u don't have to use it, why are you even replying if your not reading what im saying..... and where did i say "12 clips at once"
there your words not mine. i was merely stating that i could make a comp track from a pool of tracks in a 10th of the time if there was a slice/edit mode . If you have 12 clips that you want to make one comp track from zooming in and out 12 times gets time consuming and doesn't promote "creativity" this has nothing to do with cubase or extra layers

it doesn't need to open up another window. the way the Spectrum device expands would be the ideal choice.
i do agree with clips-within-clips. i've requested this many times. it makes sense considering the nature of Live as a powerful remixing tool and environment. and for those of us that make tons and tons of little cuts for the sake of sound designing and just going over the top, it would be a great organizational tool. and i don't think it's a stretch when i say there's many of us Live users who work and deal with tons of tiny little cuts of audio on a daily basis.
many would say, well why don't you just consolidate?? well it is not the same. it is not as flexible as having non-destructive access to your clips. no need to be undoing stuff, no need to duplicate or create another track to move stuff around, and if you're going to do that, might as well give us clips-within-clips!
and the you have the option of moving that "grouped clip" into session view, and you would be able to rearrange audio and cuts on the fly. this could also be a very good performance tool...
the scissor tool is another thing i've always requested.
