How many tracks can you run?

I am interested to know the max amount of tracks you guys are running, cause my shitty laptop becomes unstable at about 7-8 tracks(no fx)I am planning to upgrade, so could you please post your max. amount of tracks, and what type of PC/Mac you are running.

i can use 7-8 easily (cpu: about 30-40%) : mac os 9.2 on G4 laptop Titanium, 256 mb Ram. usually 128 mb allocated for LIVE

Is it the hard drive speed that is limiting you?, cause I can get close to that with my celeron 466, w/64m, I would have thought a G4 powerbook could run alot more tracks.

8 tracks need about 10-15% on my toshiba satellite. to tell you the truth i didn\'t reach the limit yet. got a couple of sets with about 13 to 17 tracks. they run on 50%, without VST, no ASIO, 14ms latency
works fine with me...........

My P4 1.7ghz with 256MB RAM and a 80GB seagate barracuda hard disk will only let me run about 8 or 9 tracks, and even then the CPU overloads badly. Something must be wrong..

I got 27 tracks to run on my 600 ibook with no vst. That just about killed it though.

Yup, built in sound device too. I dont know how usable it would be with this many tracks running. I was just pushing to see how many I could get going at once. I use it live quit abit synching to a spliter box that is being driven by a 909. It takes a couple bars to catch up, but once its on it seems to stay there. I usually push it with tracks and VSTs untill the system gets sluggish then I Just open up a new one and start over. You have to reset the clock, but that can be done easily enogh.

Well, I seem to be running 18 tracks with Live effects and vst effects ( there's even a Waves plugin sitting in the mix). I'm running this on a Dual 450 running 9.2.2. Good fun...A quick hurray to the Ableton Folks for a mighty fine piece of creative software. Up ,up and away!

In a review in Keyboard magazine, they were easily running 50 tracks of audio with Digital Performer and an Apple Titanium 500mhz notebook. I think RAM plays a big part and it may be a good any (for any laptop) to use a Firewire hard drive instead of the small 2.5 IDE that are built in. Many Firewire drives are now 7200 rpm.

For my live shows I use 14 tracks simultaneously, many with effects (filters, phasers), and two send effects (one delay, one reverb), without any problems, although I have to keep my latency at about 25ms for it to work... this is on a 1ghz pIII ibm thinkpad t22 with 384 megs of ram and an emagic emi2|6. I plan on getting an external firewire drive pretty soon, which should probably help...

Okay this is a question I am wondering with my production daw. As You may have read from my previous post I am getting live 5 next week.

My dedicated daw is as follows:

2GB ddr ram (1x2GB)
Geforce FX card (not that it matters graphics wise)
3GHZ P4 - Gigabyte Titan series MB 800FSB
Audigy 4 soundcard
250GB sata HD

The computer does not have internet connection and is dedicated to production. I doubt I'll be running vst's etc, but I will def be needing effects. Any idea's on how much could be possible with this configruation?

I will be needing both midi / audio tracks though, Linked up to the virus b. On my previous sequencer I managed 30 tracks (midi and audio) and that only took a small chunk of cpu / memory power

Dunno about DJ stuff but if it's a production job then 40-50...tho' as with any app the closer to the edge you run it the weirder it gets. Just happens with Live that the edge is closer, and weirder, than with most other apps lol...but it's more than made up for in the creativity stakes
