crashing like crazy with a m-audio Quattro USB

Post by rhythminmind » Sat Sep 11, 2004 6:17 am

so Live 4.01 hangs my system every 20 min or so. it just loses the audio device. i have to powerdown my Quattro USB and reboot... nuendo doesnt cause thisproblem. so i'm thinking it is how Live deals with the ASIO driver/ device..

anyone havie a fix?

Sure do :) Go into device manager and right click on your USB hubs, bringing up their properties.Under power management, uncheck any boxes.
By default,XP shuts down the hubs periodically to conserve power, and M-Audio/Midiman USB products freak out over it.Some NI products don't like this happening, and apparently neither does Live.

USB quattro 4X4 is caca

Post by bcomnes » Tue Oct 19, 2004 4:41 am

Does anyone have the quattro USB 4X4 working wiht Live 4.X??? I did the USB hub power management checkbox trick and while it helped (Now I crash in 30 minutes instead of 30 seconds, especially saving my file) ....I also turned off the onboard sound card driver..no improvement, This is an IBM T22 laptop running WInXP SP1 512 meg....I'm gonna try withe a 3rd party USB PCMCIA card to see if that helps .. but this 4X4 interface is NOT reliable...was expensive too...grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Tnanks for any pointers out there

the ASIO driver

Post by rhythminmind » Tue Oct 19, 2004 7:24 am

it has to do with the ASIO driver.. some appz it works great some not.. you just need to keep playing with the priority setting and whatnot.. i'm still trying to pin point it..

where do you make "priority settings"?

Post by bcomnes » Tue Oct 19, 2004 2:52 pm

Tnanks for the update...I'm not familiar with that setting.....I will also let you know if the PCMCIA USB card makes a difference over the onboard port...I'm trying that out later this week.

I really want to use the laptop because my "studio" is not permanent, I set it up and take it down due to space restrictions and I also do a lot of idea noodling on the bus...while a desktop and a PCI card is probabaly more stable but I don't have the room for it where I can work on my music....

Yep, I do. I had a slight problem with the newest driver (v2.0.0.2), but it works fine with the older one. I posted a topic about this:

Hello,
I am also using a USB quattro, and was wondering where you can download the older drivers. I am having this same problem, and previously I remember downloading them from the M-audio site, but they only seem to show the latest drivers.
Thanks,
Steve

This link should take you directly to the download page for the WinXP driver v1.30.0.3:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=sup ... oad&ID=233

If it doesn't, go here:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers

Then select "Quattro USB" on the first list and your OS on the second. Both the new and the previous drivers show up on the list. BTW, I'm talking about the Windows XP version here... I don't know if it's still available for other platforms.

Thanks, but I have tried this.
I am running Mac OSX (10.2) and the site only shows the latest drivers. If anyone else knows if i can get the older drivers, then please let me know.
Thanks again,
Steve
