Is there such thing as an entertaining DJ performance?

I think you're missing the point. Selling tickets has nothing to do with it.

The whole concept of calling 'playing' (as in DJ 'playing', not musician 'playing') somebody else's music a "show" is what many see as sad.

but then why stop there, where's the outrage on albums being released by djs, which if i'm not mistaken at least in europe have replaced actual artist releases but no one says anything about it. I don't even hear about people making an album all i hear is so-in-sos remixes coming out.

and then where do you put Live users in all of this, the users who use other
peoples tracks and then make changes to them, are they worthy of being called performers or no. I personaly feel there is a difference between a dj, a remixer and a songwriter but I think who ever it is if they are selling tickets to a show and this is the funny part  if they actualy set their equiptment up on a 'STAGE' but then once the people get there they want to look like they are in their bedroom at home and make faces like don't even bother me i'm busy. i find that hilarious.

I saw hexstatic (nijna tunes) AV set about a year ago. Set was a bit like what 2manydjs got famous for but much better in my opinion. Dance tracks mixed with pop and some rock. Snippets of stuff from all over the place, but all kind given a break-beaty overhaul. Anyway, they were bopping away behind their laptops, with two big screens of visuals to either side and a couple of burlesque dancing girls going nuts on stage. Now that was a show.

I can't belive everyone here is complaining that electronic musicians (and whatever) look boring compared to say a four piece band. Oh, look you can his hand move in time to the chords on the guitar. Big fucking deal.

Some bands have great stage presence. But most don't. Get yourselves down your local live music venue and remind yourselves just how dull the average acoustic act is to watch. And I mean watch, not listen to.

I didn't know about that comic book but it totally expresses what I think about trance. A DJ must play good music, nothing else.
A day without House Music isn't the end of the world but is so damn close.

maybe djs who don't feel like performing should perform on the side and get off the stage, it's a simple answer to all of this i know but maybe it's as simple as that. giving people the expectancy that you're a performer could be part of the problem.
