7.0.1 to 7.0.9 WinXP update issues

I'm new to Live so apologise if this seems like stupid question....

I installed Live 7.0.1 from the DVD. When I'd activated it ableton.com opened saying I can update to patch 7.0.9.

The problem is that 7.0.9 installs as a completely new instance and ask for activation again. Is there a recommended method to patch an existing version? Or does every patch involve a completely new install?

every update makes a new install. is quite good if you encounter problems with an update.
