Sending tracks to labels

Post by 2bad » Tue Aug 05, 2008 3:53 pm

I've found that labels can be cagey with their contact details, probably due to being flooded with crap tracks like mines :P I suppose my question is how do you get to find a labels contact details if they don't put them on their site.
Simple answer is phone them but then there's no phone number either. Is there some kind of site or publication with these kind of details?

Generally if a label doesn't publish their contact details for demo's it means they don't want to be contacted at that time, so I would refrain from pissing them off.

Why don't you release your music your self. The traditional label is getting a little outdated these days. :-)

i agree

and anyway labels arnt worth it

get your choones up on a website, not myspace your own website
probably cost 100 euro for a year, you can get templetes online,

get the songs on digital download sites.
even throw some on a torent site, see how many people download it, if lots do, your doing good choones
Anything at my disposal..

I dissagree, if you can find a label with a good name (with a good backcatalogue ), and they want to release your stuf, you get more exposure, promotion, they allready build an audience and credibility :)

Send your stuff to SOS or some other music mags out there. Might be surprised to find your track in a music mag!

I wouldn't give a label the rights to your collective life's work but it couldn't hurt to have a track or 2 on a label, unless you somehow feel you will have better luck than the trillion other artists just posting their music on myspace or that somebody would bother looking for your musical stylings on your own self run site.

Getting your music on a well-known label puts you in front of more ears than you could probably do on your own. However, the more worthwhile a label is, the less likely they will take unsolicited demos.

you could try to find a manager who has a lot of contacts and deals with some of the labels. get your own publishing and use the labels for the promotion.

Or you can do things in reverse. Start your own label and spend a year or 2 getting some really good artists on it. Once you get established and respected release your own crappy songs on the label. :D
