yeah thats a very full partition, maybe the drive format needs more space under osx to be read. That might be right, although I don't really know.m:o wrote:you'r right that i can't write to the NTFS Win Partitions, which isn't a problem for me.RhythmSickness wrote:I think I might have got confused with the windows format the mac cant write to.m:o wrote: mhh, don't know what you mean.
It's formatted with the NTFS filesystem and should therefore work easily with OSX. Other way around would'nt work.
On the same HD there are 2 more partitions, also with NTFS, which are working fine...
seems like an index problem or so....
any mac user who can jump in?
best way would be to back it up and maybe reformat it?
although you could just take a look at it with disk utility and see what that says.
yeah os x has issues with ntfs. Cant write to it anyway
info about fuse
by the way very inspiring post. I think I might be looking into this as well.
The partition which is not mountable hosts all my Music, so it's not acceptable that i don't have access to it. In OSX's Disk Utility the partition shows up, but it's neither checkable nor repairable (which i would be scared about anyway).
It says "no mountpoint found" in the first line of the specs. The suggestion tto format the partition is the only way to go i think, cause i've done chkdsk on it via Xp without success. Downside is that i haven't enough space for backup...
will probably lend me some hd from a friend and do this...
thanks for the link! will check it out.
ah, the partition is about 120gb from which are less than 2gb free. can it be that
OSX needs more than these 2gb for indexing the partition. Can it be thatÄs this the reason ?
hackintosh ... any opinions

Yeah it's seeming more and more like a no brainer. While apple turn into a phone company, I think it's a good time to get out from under.m:o wrote:thanks so far. i will try to distribute more free space to it when i got home.
So far, i can give just positive feedback for the so called Frakentosh.
Try it for yourself.

Will live run in a 64bit enviorment?
Computer games don't effect kids... If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music

Update and warning !!
Due that Leopard did not recognized a partition (1 of 3) of my external HD i thought of
reformatting the partition to solve potential partition errors.
So, i backed up the Data of this partition and started Leopard. In disk utilities
i wanted to erase the partition and reformat it new with NTFS file system (Disk utilities gave me this option). After clicking on confirm, the process runs for a
few secondsm than an error occured without specific report (windows would do this i guess).
This error led to destroying the files of the whole 250 gb HD - all partitions!!
I don't get what the problem was, but i know that i won't ever let MAC OSX do any
partition/formating/similar work again. Maybe it's hackintosh related and not normal
for a native mac, but it was a shock.....
Ok, i backed up the first partition before so this is safe. The other one was my
backup image (i got another set on the internal HD so this is safe too). The third one was all my old (1997-2003) projects/songs/recordings/samples/etc.. So BIG FUCK!!
i try to recover this partition with R-Studio right at the moment and hope to get it back.
So, i learned my lesson on Fucking with Leopards Disk Utiliy....

ooh, nasty. hope you can recover the data. i've had a couple of similar incidents in the past.
now i always keep a linux live cd handy with gparted on for any disk work.
here's one :
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
although i use the ubuntu live cd because i sometimes need to edit my bootloader, and i can also get to the web for any info i might need when i've broken things

OH NO! Thats bad, mo. Feel for ya.
My External Harddrive is FAT32 and there were no problems when i did the Switch to mac. The Only Disadvantage is that the File size is Limited to 2 Gigs.
Good Luck with the Recovering.

Look, if you're going to crack the OS, and use it on a regular PC, you're already violating the terms of agreement, and running the risk that Apple threw a few curve balls into the mix, different ways the OS behaves etc.
Basically, you're throwing out bad information if you start knocking the OS, when you really don't have a viable version of the OS, you have a cracked version running on a non Apple machine.
I do feel for you though, I lost a TON of samples due to a freak accident with a sample manage utility, it screwed up EVERY song I was working on at the time, and wasted months of work with one glitch.
@Machinesworking
yep, for sure. I wasn't ranting about Leopard in general on this one.
The information(experience) i gave was just about me using a Hackintosh
(which SURELY IS a cracked version of an OS), in a thread which is about using a hackintosh
.
Things can go wrong when you're experimenting with your computer, and i'm sure
that most of us know this during their hackintosh experience. Starting from
not working drivers, bootproblems with other OS's, general incompatiblity of
components and so on.... I was just not prepared to have a HD problem like this.
update:
i was able to get all my Data recovered. Everything is back in it's place and working fine. Did my first project in Live on the Leo installation without a prob.
The problem with the not recognized Partition is also solved : The "/" in the partitions name
was the reason Leo ignored the partition....
cheers
