How much would you pay for a Roland SH 101?

I'm a huge mc-202 fan, the sequencing is a bit of a pain at first but if you focus on it for a while you'll start to understand it no problem and then you'll feel like a genious when you program patterns

of course you could always use a midi-cv if you have the cv in mod done on it. I've wanted an sh-101 for years but the mc-202 takes up less space and I'm not much of a key player anyway. it comes down to how much space you have an whether or not you think you'll get use out of the keys. I'm not exactly sure what the sound differences are though, the few demo's I've heard on youtube of the 101 could easily be a 202.

at one point i had a 101, 202, 303, 505, 606, 707, 727, 808 and 909 in my bedroom. it was like roccos reverse gang bang only with 1980's music equipment. all items were mint. i was a fucking GOD. i made nothing worth hearing with it and sold it all to pay the rent. goodbye

I must be crazy but I can't find an article on there, I know it's looking me right in the face but all I see is pictures of roland gear and a bunch of comments that explain the japanese word for 4 is really similar to death. which I suppose is the reason why there is no 404

Yeah, basically, you are right; the number 4 in Japan is similar to the number 13 in America (I'm not sure if 13 gets freaky all over the world). 4 is pronounced "che" or "she" which is very close to the word for death.

Roland skipped the 404 but then came back a few years later and released a cheap little SP-404 sampler so I guess they bit the bullet or it's no longer a supersitition or something? Maybe the founder of Roland didn't go for it and they have a new President? Who's to say...

It's pretty lame, from what I understand. A toy version of the JP-8000 (which is a bit of a modern classic).

Anyway, back to the 101. For the (kind of outrageous) money they go for, I'd pick an SH-2 instead. No sequencer, but 2 oscillators (+sub), and I like the look better. An SH-09 is another, slightly cheaper, option which basically has the same features and sound as the 101 (minus the sequencer, but really, who uses that?).
