Problems with Steinberg VB-1 VST

Post by sanyama » Mon Oct 11, 2004 6:37 am

I get a buzzing sound when I use the Steinberg VB-1 VST plug-in in Live 4.0.3.

I also noticed that this bug was encountered by someone in the beta.
Has this problem been identified and is there a solution?

I also tryed the cheap Steinberg Neon synth and I only get the
same buzzing noise you describe with VB-1. I know these plugs
are not the common wet dream, but you get loads of voices out
of them. :] I dont know of any solution tho :\

Does anyone else have this problem with VB1?

I believe the VB1 is not ment to be used in other host applications than Cubase.

There is no such limitation afaik. It is a standard VST plug-in and many musicians use it in a variety of hosts. I use it in FL Studio, and it works great. I just wonder why it does not work in Live 4. I will try with the newer version (4.0.5) and let you know.

The problem with using VB-1 still occurs. Any thoughts or fixes?

I have checked with the latest VB 1 from SX 3 on Mac OS X and it just works... You are right, the VB 1 is not protected against use outside of Cubase like many other Steinberg plug-ins.

Thanks for the analysis. Now, does that mean you guys will look into the problem? 8) I sure hope so. That will help me switch over to Live completely.

As I said it works in Live 4.0.4 with the Version from Cubase SX 3 on Mac OS X.
Which Cubase or Nuendo Version do you own?
Are you on PC or Mac?

Still a problem

Will this problem ever be addressed?
C'mon Abletons, it can't be that hard.

Anxiously awaiting a fix...

I have the same problem with Live 5 on PC, there's this buzzing sound that gets louder and louder after every played note.

You can use energyXT as a VST that houses VB-1. I am guessing that you are trying the KVR psytrance bassline tutorial?

But really, when I invested in energyXT, it was only like $59. And you can use it as a vst in any host. Pretty versatile little thing, and seeing as XT2 is coming up....

My big thumbs up!

EnergyXT - highly recommended !
One of the most useful pieces of software I bought this year so far !

Think of it as a similar concept to Reason 3's Combinator for the rest of the world.

Easily overcome some of Live's routing limitations (e.g. it's fun to set up networks of parallel processing which is hard to do in Live's serial/insert based scheme). Avoid filling your session view up with redundant channels dedicated to parallel processing. Makes freezing such structures simple.

Also this is a convenient means for moving complex plugin arrangements from one VST host to another - e.g. set up a complex processing chain for a Vocal channel in Neundo 3 within a single EnergyXT instance, save the FXP, and then move this same structure into Live 5 easily.

Like Reason 3's Combinator you can use EnergyXT as a convenient means for surfing your library of custom patches without concern for which instruments need to be loaded up to audition a patch.

You can use EnergyXT recursively - Launch EnergyXT instances within itself to build up highly complex processing networks from more basic EnergyXT components you've created.

Has additional inbuilt plugins for splitting/remapping/routing MIDI streams, playing MIDI files back from within itself, Mixer objects, etc .... you can setup big fat Combi style patches (similar to high end hardware workstation synths) with splits, layers, arpegiators, etc.

Energy XT is an extremely useful and versatile structuring device !

I was very excited about Combinator being added to Reason 3 for the same reasons however this is even better!
- you can use any plugins of your choosing
- use it within any VST host at any point you could insert a plugin

It cost me $68AUD in total to purchase it from ShareIt.com

This is the most fun I've ever had with $68AUD
(except for some crazy LSD I bought back in 1994 ...)

Cheers !

I can't believe this still hasn't been fixed... I just tried on V6.02 and VB1 is still fubar.
