I have to say, in my limited experience, that at this point, the audio problems seem application specific and not tied to the operating system...
For what it is worth, I don't run into any sound quality issues if I run Reason by itself, for example, or edit and play sound with Spark LE, BIAS or Sound Studio.
At this point I am waiting for Live v2, and cross my fingers that the new version will address most of its performance and audio quality issues.

I have a question, I'm thinking about getting an ibook or powerbook 667 and I remember yon saying something something about using the ram on the macs instead of the harddrive to increase performance greatly. now i know that pc's don't have this ability unless you use a thirdparty program, but macs have it built in. Is it true, that it does work or not? and exactly and I don mean exactly what is the percentage of increase in performance over using the harddrive. in yons earlier post about this he said something like you would probably get more tracks and efx than you can handle or need. Would someone confirm this please, because if that is so then altivec shouldn't mean a thing and I should be satisfied with my ibook/powerbook purchase.

I use a ram drive for samples and to record loops to when i play live. It definetly helps improve performance. I use an Ibook 600. It works pretty good, but I dont think you can make a ram drive in osx. If someone knows how to do this let me know. Although if I had to do it over again i doubt i would go with and ibook id probably go with a pc.

You can set one up under OSX. I posted a link in another thread this week to directions about how to do so, but I don't have it handy, so either search the archives or on google. (I think my english grammar is getting more complicated since I've been in berlin.) A firewire hard drive (esp a desktop one) may give you better results than a built in laptop drive too (or possibly some simultaneous mixture of clips on fw and internal drives..?) It would be nice to have actual benchmarks available. perhaps someday when I have time. er.. after Live 2.Anonymous wrote:I use a ram drive for samples and to record loops to when i play live. I must warn everybody who intended to use FireWire drives with OSX10.2.2 Jaguar and Live .yon wrote:Anonymous wrote:A firewire hard drive (esp a desktop one) may give you better results than a built in laptop drive too (or possibly some simultaneous mixture of clips on fw and internal drives..?) The Jaguar doesn't support the power management of external drives witch results in a FireWire HD spinning down after about 15 minutes .... with results in Audio problems in Live (crackles, glitches , etc) it is a really serious issue with Jaguar that maybe will be resolved in future updates.
But for now i have found a workarownd:
Install Jaguar on your external FireWire drive together with Live and set the energy saver to "NEVER" for everything.
