provided you're not using a Firewire based Audio interface.

WinXP SP2 restricts bandwidth of Firewire interfaces to 100 Mbit/sec.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this yet?

Is it possible to replace the driver file for 1394 support with one from a live WinXP SP1 system ?

I´m having a problem installing a maxtor extenal fw HD in SP2, and maybe this is the problem.

Windows just can´t recognize the damn thing, and I can´t find no drivers for it. If this is true this is a major bug.

I just formatted it and upgraded the PC to SP2, and I have never had this problem before. Re-formatting it would be a pain but if this is not fixed FAST I have no choice...

If you'd applied SP2 after installing WinXP it should be listed under "Add Remove Programs" in Control Panel ...

I'm not 100% certain if removing it from here totally eradicates its effects however it's worth a shot.

Hopefully microsoft still make SP1 available for download from their site.
Let me know if removing SP2 in this way makes your FW drive come to life.

From what I can tell SP2 offers no signficant advantages for musicians (particularly if their studio computer systems are not connected to the web)..

I'm not bothering with SP2 for the moment.

No problems here - and i got a fw-disk running just sweet - as well as mLAN,dsp-cards,usb2.. mLAN takes ALL the bandwidth available, so it can't restrict the bandwidth that much - It may reduce it with 100Mbit/sec (haven't checked), but thats max! - else my DAW wouldn't run - it's based on the mLAN-protocol & i have it all singing. For the record; i had to get a separate fw-card to run the fw-disk, due to the bandwithoverflow on the mLAN-fw-card..

100Mbit/sek? - no way!! mLAN needs around 400Mbit/sek to run at all! How can my DAW cope then..? - I mean, it DOES run ALL nice with sp2..

Good luck - these sp2-probs is all new to me, so i find it hard to believe it's sp2 causing this..

futile panic attack yesterday...all I needed was to find the drivers on the web...

Perhaps you wouldn't mind posting a link ?

Were they specific drivers for your motherboard's integrated FW chipset (or dedicated PCI FW card) ?

No, it were the maxtor HD drivers.

Actually I'm using SP2 and I don't notice any problem with fw transfer speed.
