Track w/ two different short ideas. Which way to take it?

Post by willdahbe » Sat Aug 16, 2008 7:31 pm

I just started on this track and feel like it has the vibe I want and sounds pretty good to me. Just kind of confused in which direction to take it into.

There are two directions I could take it in which both are demonstrated in this clip. One direction is the cut up harder style, the second is kinda paddy, you will hear the switch at the 00:46 sec mark. Anyways just want to see what peoples opinions are on the two styles. If anyone can comment it would be totally awesome...

p.s. i'm using mediafire to host this, what does everyone use that is less hassle for the listener?

Sounds awesome! I´d take the first variation but combine it with the second. I´d leave everything as it is until 01:04, but I´d put a kick on every 8th from 00:46 on, and after 01:04 I´d come back to the hard version adding some vocal snippets.

Where´d you get that awesome bass from?

Hey thanks for the feedback. Although I'm not quite sure what you mean by put the kick on the 8th. Every 8th note or every 8th beat?

The bass is two parts, one being the synth Unique on the preset fat lead, (there is tweaking of course) and a sample from the beginning of the song 99 red balloons. There is a real nice drone at the beginning of that toon.. anyways thats loaded into sampler with the distortion shaper turned onto hard 100%

there are also a couple one shot bass samples loaded straight onto the arrange page that i have reversed and time stretched for grit. actually everything is one shots just loaded into the arrange page except for the bass.

I meant on every 8th note, assuming this is a 4/4 beat, to put a bit of tension to it. Unique is an interesting synth, I love its GUI and the sounds are in fact quite unique. Thanks for that info, I will try to layer some basses in a similar fashion.

I'd definitely keep both parts in the same track. That will give it a lot of diversity, making for a more interesting song.
