the Vista front...
the Vista front...
I own a copy of this OS....got it with my laptop...
I really like it's interface better than XP...
so I would like to use it...
I installed it twice over the last year
problem was Live was running very VERY badly under Vista...
(pops/glitches/Cpu spikes)
so it was back to XP...
(mind you ..Reaper/renoise were working fine on Vista..)
has anything changed ?! or does Vista+Live still unusable..?

As of 7.0.9 my rme multiface 1 and 9652 run fine on vista. From previous threads on this forum and the rme forum, I understand that there were conflicts between Ableton's and RME's handling of the MMCSS feature in Vista. Supposedly, Ableton now overrides RME's use of that feature and things seem to work smoothly. I'm running at 256/6 ms now with no problems. Previous to 7.0.9 I couldn't get below 1024 samples without clicks.

No problems with Vista, Live and RME over here. Vista also performs much better with Service Pack 1 applied to it, and the CPU performance seems to be slightly better for me. Also the Vista audio architecture is far superior to XP as it provides (near) direct access to the hardware buffers which removes the need for complex audio drivers.

If you are getting Pops and clicks check this out.

It helped me detect that my DVD drive on my Lappie was caussing the drop outs. As soon as I disabled it the drop out disappeard.

That is a very good shout; I used to use Diskeeper that had a service that would perform disk polls every twenty seconds resulting in audio pops - the latency checker helped me fix the problem.selthym wrote:If you are getting Pops and clicks check this out.

there is a known problem with vista basic graphic mode + Live - you have to use Aero for it to work properly - that could have caused your problems
personally I went back to XP - there are things I like about vista but too many things I didn't including plug-ins not supported or needing me to pay to update
