Tempo Nudge Midi Setup

Post by gtg1 » Sat Aug 23, 2008 9:58 am

Does anyone know how to set up a jog wheel to control the Tempo nudge up and down function. All attempts i have made make the function go wild!

I am running Live 7 with novation remote zero sl and an EKS XP5. I want to use the jog wheel on the XP5 to control the tempo nudge function

Can anyone help?? it would be much appreciated

As far as I know, the tempo nudge buttons are just on/off switches - they're not continuous controls. Still, the jog wheel should be able to send increment=on, decrement=off. Does the jog wheel have acceleration that perhaps Live isn't detecting correctly? See the manual chapter on mapping to relative midi controllers to improve the detection process if that's the case...

The way that i can get the jog wheel to work is either only trigger tempo nudge up and using the counter clockwise movement to release the tempo up. OR having the clockwise movement to nudge up and the counter clockwise to nudge down, but this means that you can never turn tempo nudge off. It is always either nudging up or down, which makes beat matching to external sources a little tricky!

Yes, that's the effect I thought you'd get - not really useful. So, either I'd map the tempo nudge buttons to actual buttons instead of a jog wheel, or I'd map the jog wheel to something else like the global tempo or the scrub feature in clip view. Might be closer to the control you want...?

Thanks for that. It is what I ended up doing.Weird that Live can't support the jog wheel for nudging as this seems to me like the most obvious and natural way to beat match.. but hey who am I to know any better!

Yeah, it would be nice if a "tempo nudge control" button magically appears between the up/down buttons when entering midi-map mode, just like it does for the scrub control. Ah well... Feature request for Live 8, maybe? :)

the thing is that most jogwheel controllers send out a note on and note off message around the CC messages when turning the wheel. If live would be able to read multiple messages for one button this would do the trick.
