Spinoff thread whoo!: What was your BEST hardware purchase?
So we've seen your worst. What's your best? A piece of hardware that you can't live without... or one that you regret having sold many moons ago?
I'll say it was my Stanton DJ Craze package back in 2001. 2 semi-decent turntables (i think they were STR8-80's ?) with DJ Craze "signature" cartridges, a horrible little mixer, even worse headphones. But i'll be goddamned if that little setup didnt get me all amped to dive head first into DJing and production. It started it all. Plus the blue led's and strobe ust looked way too fucking cool.
Sold it back in 2006 and bought myself a shitty Sony mp3 player with the money (see original "worst purchase" thread). Regretted it many many times. Bought some cdj 400's a few months ago to get back into the whole dj'ing thing and they're great... but never as exciting as that first little package. A lot of sentimental value.

Had, but no longer have:
Mini Moog bought for $200.
Incredible worlds inside that machine. One of these days I'll have another Moog.
Have, & plan to keep forever:
Mu-Tron Bi-Phase
Gigantic vintage 70's phaser. Basically the same thing Lee Perry used at the Black Ark studio to phase most (if not all) of his mid-70's productions
Amazing liquid sounds!

Helper Monkey: My Hello Kitty needs his litter changed. After that, you may lick my shitter clean.
Then, if you're a Good Girl, I may let you listen to a little bit of Joshua Tree. But only if you're good.
Now run along, Helper Monkey. An Englishman down at the hardware store can't reach something on the top shelf and needs to use your back as a step stool.
Run Girl, Run!

Not to rub salt in your wounds db2, but I bought a Mono/Poly at a used shop in NYC in 2002 for $500. That was top dollar back then. Buying old analog gear in the city ain't cheap.db2 wrote:Honestly I loved my Korg Mono/Poly, sold many moons ago. So fun to play with for hours on end and get very interesting sounds detuning the osc's slightly and playing with the pulse width modulations n such. Really thick synth and very fun to play with.
Look at this:

I'm just trying to point out that buying vintage gear is an amazing investment. $1200 for a Mono/Poly today will likely be an unheard of cheap price ten years from now.
