Just kidding.

In all seriousness. There is way more to Ableton than any of the stuff I have used to make hip-hop including the MPC, SP, Triton, etc.

You should YouTube some videos, and get inspired.

If you haven't done so already, read the manual - Live has many features that will go unnoticed if you don't.

You're totally right. Live has no hip-hop features. This has to do with it's German origin. At it's best it can come up with some minimal ambient techno or perhaps some cheesy euro disco. But hip-hop. No way.

Maybe German hip-hop can be produced. But that's a far stretch.

Having used the RS7000, RM1X, electribes, Motif, etc, etc... I can definitely say that, at the very least, dope hip hop can be made on Live... It's all time and space... it had the ability for MIDI control/pads/entry, crazy FX, VST capable architecture, session and arrangement, beat repeat, etc, etc...
If you can't make hip hop on Live, or say you can't, you need to go back to the lab, because that's crazy... I'm in the middle of an album right now.

Live doesn't contain a huge library of traditional sounds like the Logic Suite does, but what you need in place of that are good plug-ins/instruments. For hip hop your probably looking for more traditional sounds like strings, bass, horns, orchestral stuff. There are plenty of companies, including spectrasonics and east/west, that put out targeted sample libraries and sound modules in vst/au formats.

I write a lot of genres, including hip hop, with logic, ableton, and some things in max. In ableton you can do the majority of common operations supported in Logic, it just doesn't have as large a built in sound library, which I'd imagine is what you're missing with ableton live out of the box.

I use only ableton for all hip-hop, or more properly folk hop. I think it's all about what you are most comfortable with. You can make almost any type of music with anything. There are ups and downs in everything. You can check it out at

hang on...

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON ABOUT?

of course you can make hiphop on ableton. i don't understand why you have a problem with it.

you can make any music on ableton. ableton allows you make drum beats, synth sounds and samples. change the tempo to around 90bpm.

why wouldn't you be able to make hiphop on ableton?

are you serious?

if you cant make hip hop in Live, you cant make hip-hop period.

think of having an unlimited amount of MPC's, which are easier to use, easier to sample from, and easier to program.

if his name is any indication, he's 16 years old.

so I assume you can make trance but hip hop is giving you problems...

one of the key factors in hip hop is sampling.... and Live can also be viewed as one giant sampler.

the fact that you can grab snippets from anything in the arrange section
(e.g you've got an old drum break, so you can grab individual slices of the kick, snare and hats, how about a section where there's a piano chord for a stab)
drag into simpler, impulse or a drum rack for immediate sample jamming and mangling makes it perfect for hip hop.

or just load them up with whatever you have in your sample collection (just a drag and drop away)

like kpa said "unlimited amount of mpc's"
...and it's mr sakitumi (too late to change profile name)...damn
