Are your backing tracking playing in Arrangement view?

Oh... and I do want to use the ''session view'' for this...
Does someone has experience with this kind of live performance?

I use 2 types of AV settings.
1. Live straight QT videos on 1 arranger track with markers midi assigned so though there is pre prepared order I can jump if needed to different parts.
All audio - session view loops, and various VST instruments. additionally hardware synths and other real instruments
Video goes to Entrancer and video mixer, there are other video sources-live cameras, HD and DVD players, second laptop with Arkaos etc all depending on kind of performance.
2. Kind of opposite simple AV songs in QT format with straight audio played from Arkaos and the rest like in setup 1.
Set 1 if focused on music performance set 2 on video performance.

Thanks !!! Do you know any good tutorials on this matter, or is it just ''try it out yourself..." ?

Would love to make but doubt will ever really get enough free time for that. Well, when I think of it it is just leaving camera on while doing it..... perhaps will do it after upgrade to ver.8. I dont expect anything but they will add some more video functionality that may change my way of doing it. I hope they wont waste resources on FX- external be it V4, V8, Vixid or Entrancer- can do it better, but some other nice stuff, I trust Live developers smartness so I am confident whatever will be extra in ver8 will be clever.
The tricky part is that if you change tempo the video files may overlap each other or contrary spread with gaps.
If you want non pause video play then tempo must be mapped. You can still jump to clips using midi (dont even try the mouse for that as you might move marker accidently.
As compared to video or VJ application Live uses ridiculous amount of CPU for video (2-3%) and true to its name 'live" is 1000x more reliable then any other app

Thanks again,.. I think I need to know how ''option 1" works as you described...
This is how I work so far : two tracks per song in ''session view'' one audio (backingtracks) and one click-track for the drummer.. and I switch between songs just by pressing ''enter'', and the tempo of the songs are pre-programmed. I would like to find a way to have video on like a ''track 3'' but as you said it has to be done in the ''arrangement'' view.. can the video be triggerd from ''arrangement'' while the audio is triggerd by ''session view'' ? And each videoclip dedicated to a particular song?
Or is the easiest way to rewire an app like Grand VJ and midi-trigger the video's you need for each song ?

(I see you are on a mac)

OSX has the IAC bus that allows you to send midi from one app to the other. By far the easiest thing to do is make midi clips of information in ableton that send midi notes corresponding to video clips in a VJ app (Arkaos is easy for this but there are many others).

Then use the IAC bus to send the midi from ableton to the vj app.

Lots of us do this. I actually don't' do it on the same machine but have one laptop for audio and one for video and send midi between the two.

Ableton Live 6 | Ableton Live 7
If I were doing this on stage, I'd want to keep it simple. If you have two versions of Live and a second laptop, you could use one computer for audio triggering in Session View, and the other computer for triggering video clips in Arrangement View.

Keep it nice and dumb. Continue to fire clips with the comfortable method you have established for yourself in Session View. On the second computer, MIDI map a controller to jump to Locators that you can create and assign to the different video clips you want to play. Keep the clips separated by decent chunks of time so they don't overlap or interfere with one another. I think you could even be fine using a single track! Assign your controller to play the clips, scroll through the clips, and stop the clips.

If you don't have two computers, or if you have access to another laptop that is grossly underpowered compared to your main Mac, don't assume that the weaker computer can't handle what you need it to do until you try it first. There are a lot of things you can do to streamline processing. Simple Live sets don't take much juice at all. There was someone on this forum the other day who was amazed that Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead is currently using an old 12" PowerBook live on stage to play Max/MSP.

A benefit is that you'll have two computers, so should one fail - the redundant backup is right there ready to go.
