one reinforces the other. I could never give up the acoustic, pure rawking power, no bullshit, all tone all the time.

I would like an Electro Harmonix Bass Synth, add that to the GAS list.

stuff like this helps a ton, sit down for an afternoon and learn a handful of songs, don't get bogged down with hard songs, most of all have fun, this is great!!

the cure - love cats - tasty, tab seems fine

:D that's fun!!

Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man - never would've thought to look it up, very easy, worth trying just for the intro hook!

The Commodores-Brick House - very cool, it'll take a bit to learn it but the tab looks decent.

Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real - HA!! great tune, simple as hell bass!!

The Staple Singers-- I'll Take You There - very cool. don't like the way the tab is marked up, or the lack of... fun solo part!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9rh3JTvvlk
http://www.bassmasta.net/s/staple_singers/155072.html
and watch some guy play it (these can be helpful)

I Want You Back - Jackson 5 - LOL another great suggestion!! this'll take a little bit :D

Would these recommendations translate well to playing on keyboard?

The riff I posted on page 1 "Tone Deft is a Trollup" might work well. I edited the image to include the keyboard note names under the individual notes if you don't read music. IMO it translates well to KB because there is only 1 black key, and the riff stays within a single octave. Force yourself to play it with your left hand (if you are mainly a single/right hand KB player) as well if you want an extra little challenge. If you want, you can toss out the tempo and individual note lengths and re write it for a different mood. Hope this helps.

hell i usually dont like playing bass with a guitar player lol.
i did fall in love with bass and evolved to an upright.

at first i loved the bass because i just felt as if i was playing guitar solo's the whole time hehe
i would just riff around off the pentatonic scale
then when i wanted to make a key change i would go kick the guitar player in the leg to cue him (wake him up)

i also love rockin out with drummer and just thump on the kick.

dude if you know a descent drummer go jam some drum and bass.
nice little trick i do is make a split of my signal have one that is all my effects and the other is clean.. i put a volume pedal in the beginning of my effects chain so i can swell in effects.

keeps the low end but you can tweak out the effects side with distortion and filters.. also drop an octave shifter and pitch it an octave higher add distortion and you got a tight ass guitar player riffing with you to perfection :)

be careful though.... your guitars will get mad and leave.. i used to have a sick custom American strat and laney head with marshal 4x12 and thats all gone lol... i still have some crappy guitar in my closet some where .. i dont even remember what kind it is lol.

alot of primus songs are pretty easy to learn too.
at least the main riffs are.

my name is mud
shake hands with beef
(shake hands with beef sounds like it was jacked from a song called bertha butt and the butt sisters by the jimmy castor bunch)

o yaaaaa!!
It is funny how some people end up on the bass. Cheers to finding love in all the wrong places! Of course, if you can't find love in Austin, then one probably never will. 8)
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

There is a bootleg concert out there of the Headhunters with Jaco Pastorius on bass. If that doesn't get you wanting to play nothing will...

Also anything on Graceland by Paul Simon
