Uc-33e control surface

Post by ryo74 » Mon Oct 25, 2004 11:29 am

Hi guys, anyone using this USB/Midi controller? How's it like & does it work with footswitches? I'm thinking of getting one! Thanks! :)

I have the older uc-33, it´s cheap, usb powered and has a midi in wich appairs as separate midi device inside Live! If the footswitch is midi, you could select it as separate midi device and assign it to wat you need.
Well the faders are ok but don´t respond very quick to your movements (means rocking in DJ use) and the knobs are very cheap plastic crap ones, that´s why I`ve put some better rubber ones from the musicstore around the corner!

Greetings

Hey, thanks! I'm currently using the Ozone to control Live & it's been working fine.......but,the Uc-33e looks like it can do a better job?? :?
You know?.....it's very difficult to get things here in S'pore! I have to order from abroad & sometimes they don't ship to my location!!!!!! So,.......i really gotta be sure before i purchase anything! :(

Glad someone else notices the sluggishness of the uc33 faders. I emailed evolution about it and they said it was a smoothing 'feature' to prevent midi jitter, I wish you could turn it off. It has to be said that there is no jitter though, I guess it's a good controller for the price but if you want to 'bang' faders dj style I would look elsewhere, a Kenton control freak perhaps.

i've had the UC-33 (non "e") since it came out. it was one of those "have to haves". it streamlined my live pa alot. getting the UC-33 allowed me to get rid of the mackie and presonus firestation 8output firewire soundcard.

yea there is some delay/slowness in the faders and knobs, but i've actually gotten used to it. i was on a slower computer for a while and became used to a higher output buffer.... about 35ms. So the extra 15ms or so from the UC33 control didn't seem to bother me i guess. I just started putting the knobs and sliders where i want them about an 8th note before i needed them.

you can't beat the price either.

on a side note: has anyone noticed the 14 assignable buttons for midi control sometimes don't always trigger when you first hit them? and you sometimes have to hit them twice?

dude, I have, and that's one of the biggest disappointments in that unit for me. I don't use those particular buttons in a live situation now b/c of that. It is definitely not cool.

Look at this, he has explained about clicking twice and how to change it, but I´ve not tried out yet myself.

the uc33e has a 'mute midi control' button and it allows you to program the presets through a pc GUI.

on the other hand.
the old uc33 is not so hard to program manually and you can also mute midi sort off. it's also upgradable to a uc33e.

To those who have to press twice to trigger a button. this is why.
By default the buttons will send note on when you press them, then note off when you press it again.
You have to program the buttons to be midi notes. So it will send a note off when you release the button. thus working everytime you press them.

cheers

question on the UC33 (non "e")
how do you save the changes you make to one of the presets.
for instance - in preset #1. i've changed the buttons to send a midi note instead of on/off, now how do i save that.

i couldnt find it in the manual, i lost my printed manual and the .pdf is made to be printed, not read online so is rather confusing.

press 'memory' and enter the number of you preset within the timeframe.

For you Adam it would be just pressing 'memory' + '0' + '1'

I love it!

I've got a UC-33e & an X-Session & I love them both. I have the 8 sliders assigned to the volume of 8 audio tracks & the 3 knobs above them controlling the eq3 for each track. The buttons goto the the loops on both controllers & my X-Session is mapped out for the pingpong & redux on each track. I absolutely couldn't do what I do with Live if I didn't get this equipment. Got them both on www.audiomidi.com for under $300.

Once question though, I've read somewhere on the forum & someone talked about being able to scroll down the audio tracks & activate something from a midi controller. Is this true? If so, how do I do it?
