What would YOU choose?

Post by pilgrimomega » Tue Aug 26, 2008 12:17 am

I have a choice to make and I am hoping that most of you will have an opinion about it, like you do so many other things. ;)

If you had a choice between the SSL Duende mini or the Focusrite Liquid Mix, what would you choose?

If you have used one or both how did you feel about it/them?

I appreciate any input on this, thanks for your time.

You could have at least listed pros and cons or some description... I have no idea what the hell you're talking about... Sure there's Google, but that's not as easy as just writing this...

I don't know. Maybe the Liquidmix because it has a control surface and it's not just a boring metallic cracker box. I've never heard either one.

I have the Focusrite Liquid Mix but I gave up on it about a year ago because the emulations sound too similar, there really isn't anything distinctive about them, and they sound no better than the decent softies. In fact I'm convinced that all of the reviews, awards, etc. are 100% marketing bullshit.

Haven't tried either of those boxes and not sure what your needs are but I'd say UAD-2 or the possibly-soon-to-be-cheaper UAD-1. Maybe worth a trawl over at Gearslutz.com

Not to complicate your decision, but I'd personally be looking at:

uad-flexi pack

or

ssl duende mini

Users
Condra and ... maxroach, ( roach, or roach808)
have discussed this extensively in the past.

Have you looked at Harmony - Central user reviews?

@Monkey,
would you sell that shizz?

best of luck,

One of the new UAD-2 cards. The Duende sounds great but if you look on their forum they have soooooo many people complaining about problems it's unreal. Plus if you want more plug-ins they've hefty pricing.

UA' plug-ins are well priced, and seriously great! And addictive.

Definitely I'd go with UAD myself, even though it's not on your list.

+1 vote for UAD. I don't have it, but i've had some serious lust for the XPander for a while now, which incidentally does not appear anymore in the list of products at the UA site. Version 2 coming soon, i guess?

another for uad. if you have a pci-e slot, the uad2 might be up your alley...

i recently picked up an xpander, they had some good deals going on for the software, i originally ended up with $750 worth of vouchers, because of an existing card, and they had a really nice sale going on. only thing was, my xpander was bad. so uad sent me another, and gave me all the vouchers again. 8) 8) 8) so needless to say, i don't regret buying the xpander right before the new cards were released, and until they do come out with the uad2 xpander, i can't even use the new cards, as i don't have a pci-e slot. this really isn't that bad, as i do have available pci slots, and the prices of the original cards should reach @ 100 bucks (used) soon, as more people upgrade. i'll snag up a couple of those to tide me over until my next computer upgrade... might be something to consider...
