good use for a gamepad

Post by hoffman2k » Mon Oct 25, 2004 12:49 pm

there are some apps out there that will allow you to assign keyboard commands to a gamepad.

This is an example setup to make some midi files for the impulse.
for a playstation-like gamepad.

assign the letters q,s,d,f,g,h,j,k to the 8 buttons to trigger the impulse pads.

assign w-s, c-v to change octave and velocity.
some gamepads might have some more buttons. you can assign anything to those.
maybe 'return' and select the pref 'select next scene on launch' would be usefull.

cheers

not sure about pc for mac you have www.usboverdrive.com

you dont need much. just an app that translate's gamepad messages into keyboard messages. And a gamepad.
you dont need an adapter unless you want to use a gamepad from a console (xbox, ps2,..).

It's not the greatest use of Live. But you can come up with some decent stuff like midi clips for the impulse or improvised melody's.
Use the scale to make it even more fun.
If the gamepad has those xyz-axis joysticks you can assign those to the directional keys.
And assign another button to 'Return'

I also find that programming the impulse on a gamepad gives more response the doing it on the keyboard. especially when you want to play at a faster rate the 1/16.

cheers

yep, late reaction I know...

but special thx for the tip mr. hoffman :) I ordered an adapter, cleaned my
unused PS2 dualshock pad from dust and got a new low-cost controller.

great!
