Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO 80 OHM and 250 OHM... Wich one?

I´m about to buy this beyerdynamic after reading lots of good reviews about it, and find that there are 2 different models with different impedance, 80 and 250 OHMs.

Wich´s the best for using with soundcards (laptop internal and external)?

I reckon you'd find it hard to drive the 250ohm version from most soundcards (you'd need a headphone amp). Go for the 80ohm version I'd say.

yeah I just got the 80 ohm and they have just enough power for my ipod and macbook pro internal soundcard. When driven by my Mackie big knob and Fireface they are as loud as I want them to be. I highly recommend these! I used them for a session this weekend composing a progressive track and mixing the bass was easy as pie. Between my Etymotic ER-4s and these I hardly needed to use the nearfields. Absolutely essential if you don't have a sub or adequate bass response in your speakers. If you don't need cans though the ER-4s are louder, clearer, and have extreme isolation (you could get hit by an oncoming train and not even know it was coming). The ER-4s are harder to mix the bass on though (more perceived bass on the 770's)

I suggest you buy them both!!

hey there, another topic that I wake from the dead...

because here is my specific question:

I own a motu ultralite, and a mackie 1402 VLZ pro.

I' m soon buying some headphones, aiming at the Beyerdynamic 770 pro.

they are 250 ohms impedance phones.

is it ok with my config?

ok on the motu ultralite headphones out?
or with the mackie headphones out?

ive got the 250 ohm version and they seem to be fine ,plugged in to my edirol ua 25 soundcard . they make my ears ring anyway

I have the DT770 250ohm I have used them for 8 years with different laptops and dj mixers and they are definitely loud enough.

I've owned the 80 ohm version and I went through 3 of them because one side would always start buzzing duing the course of a year (their CS is awesome for replacing it all three times). However, on the last time, they switched me over to a 250 ohm version and I haven't had a problem with it since.

i have been using beyer dt250's for years and they sound amazing - but they are 80 ohm and that is too much for my FW410's headphone output - they are ok with other stuff like mixing desks etc.....so I would go for a higher ohm rating (correct me if ia m wrong but the higher the number in ohms, the less resistence) if you are worried about levels.

eeeh... my physics lessons are really far now...

it is strange, as I have read on another topic that the 80 ohms were good for hi-fi amps and "non-pro" gear such as emu, edirol soundcards, mixers... and that the 205 ohms were more fitted to "pro" gear like studio mixing consoles, digidesign soudcards and 1 or 2 "middle quality" soundcards like the motu's and edirol...??

I'll check beyerdynamic website for infos... why did'nt I think of it before

(I so much love ableton forums to find any answer about anything, I totally forget to check other info sites...)

i'm owner of 250 ohm version, they work excellent with my motu ultralite. if i were you i would pick up 250 ohm version, it is in theory harder to distort that 80 ohm version.

For me the bass is kinda thick on the 250 ...but my set has taken a beating and still sounds good.

If you take them apart you will be amazed how damn small the drivers are in um.
