Why Live 7 and Logic 8 together?

Anyone using both, or is it enough with just one of them?

I use both. In my experience, Live and Logic can be bff in some situations. ha ha.

I love Ableton for it's warp function I don't know how I get on without some kind of elastic audio whether it's in Abe or Pro Tools. Logic doesn't have this so when I Rewire, I do a lot of my audio in Live.

I also find Ableton's looping functions better than Logic. It's easier to cue things on the fly. With them Rewired, Live can function as a big sample player. It's like having Live as it's own complex external instrument.

In Logic, I find that the MIDI editing functions are a lot better. So I actually do a lot of my MIDI sequencing in Logic while routing in audio and samples from Live. Logic also has ALOT more instruments to choose from than Live. They also have more plugs for mixing and mastering than Live does. So when I mix, I do it mostly in Logic.

Sometimes, I create a whole track in Live though just because Session View is really great for writing. Then I render all tracks and put in Pro Tools or Logic to do any vocal tracks or mixing.

There's no reason you can't use one or the other though. By itself, both are powerful products. Together, they complement each other well though.

With the prices you can get a legit copy of Logic Studio for on eBay, you can pretty much justify buying it just for the loops and instruments that come with it. Lots of EXS instruments you can load in Live, only downside is you can't use the loops in Live at present without converting them to another format first.

A lot of people make their tracks in Live and then finish the mixing / production side off in Logic, as according to them its better for that stuff.

This'll sound like a dumb reason but I find that I can never finish anything using Live on its own. If i just use live I end up with a bunch of loops and no structure. With Logic open I find it easier to structure, mix and finish a tune.

I also prefer the effects that come with Logic. Instruments aren't really an issue as there are so many great VSTs an AU bits.

I recently bought Logic. But used it for real first time yesterday. For recording and comping a vocal track. Very handy. Not really available in Live in that incarnation, anyways.

I tried to use Logic and I do fairly straight guitars/electric bass/sampled drums/syths, not techno or even any loops shy of looping a electric bass line I actually played - no warping ever. Heck, I don't even use the clip view.

Live gets a vibe quickly. I can get more work done quicker than Logic. My last test I created the exact same song in Logic and Live and the Live version sounded more together faster. Everything is faster, and I have used them all from Cakewalk 3.0 to ProTools 7.4.

I dunno...
