how can I sample out parts of songs - Remix - ETC?

Post by stevesilvers » Mon Sep 08, 2008 11:45 pm

I want to know how I can sample out parts of songs. For example an early 90's song by 3rd Bass sampled sledgehammer.

I guess my question is how did they do this? Or did they just remake all the parts?

Example below.

I also want to know the answer to this question :?

But, I know for one thing; if you are at a point in your career where you have somewhat of a reputation, and you get permission to remix someone's track, they will almost always give the track broken down into different parts (like bassline, piano, etc.).

Please let me know when you find out the answer to this one as well :)

Ideally you need all the individual parts, which as Beeds says, you ain't gonna get unless you pay. :D

However, with clever looping, cutting and EQ, you can use the whole track to remix. In fact I am putting together a lil video tute on exactly how to do that in Live 7.

i shall post up when it's ready.

they sampled it from the record, or replayed the parts (Dr. Dre used to do this a lot). my guess is 3rd Bass sampled it, either off the album or a 12" single that had different mixes (i.e. extended mixes, instrumental mix, etc).

just listened to Pop Goes The Weasel - they sampled it, definitely. the whole 8 bar beginning of "Sledgehammer" is clean to sample

the horn riff loop from Stevie Wonder's "You Haven't Done Nothing" is in there too, at the end
