Best City in Canada
What's the best city in Canada to live, and what's great about it? Where is the best music scene?

Depends on what you like to do, best music scene would probably be Toronto followed by Montreal...best city is open for much debate, I say Toronto, but if you like oceans and mountains Vancouver would be best, Toronto is kind of like a junior New York, much smaller and friendlier. Montreal is underrated, I think, but the winters are super cold. But if you like your cities urban i say Toronto. If you like cities a little more small town maybe Ottawa or Halifax?

Quebec is a city actually. In fact it's the Capital of the province of Quebec. But I think Montreal would be a better contender for "Best City in Canada" than Quebec city. Montreal is much more diverse and very bilingual.
As far as big cities go, yeah it pretty much comes down to Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal.
Best music scene - Many would say Montreal. But I can understand if you say Toronto.
Best quality of Life - Vancouver I think. i just lived there for most of the last decade and moved back to Ontario last year, an hour away from Toronto. This year, guess where I went for Vacation - Vancouver. There's a hell of a lot to do around there.

Cost of living is much less in Montreal than in Toronto and Vancouver. But the job market is much worse. Especially if your french isn't strong. TO and Van are similar in general I've found, although in some parts of Vancouver, housing prices are just insane. Prices have capped now because it got so inflated. But for rent, it's not too hard to find reasonable prices compared to TO. Job market is good in both Van and TO. Skilled labour is so in demand in Van you could work every day starting immediately. Alot of that has to do with the Olympics coming, but also a lot of growth.nebulae wrote:so is cost of living between Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver about the same? how's the job market?
Also, which city is most public transport friendly?
And I appreciate the responses, but if you could say why you think a particular city is best, that would be highly appreciatedThanks.
Transit - Toronto's good what with the subway and all. Vancouver has no subway but a skytrain that's good for certain directions. Overall not as good as TO. Can't comment on Montreal.
Montreal's got a lot of the cool factor though. Funnest city to go out in I think. It's also got a very European feel, which I like.
Oh and I didn't vote because it's too hard to pick one. I've always been torn between Van and TO and always wanted to try living in Montreal....

Weighing up your options in case the Republicans get another term?

No but seriously, heres the lowdown:
Vancouver
Pros: Ocean, mountains, weed, very chilled atmosphere, good bands
Cons: Hippies, not the best for jobs, scene not quite as strong as others, expensive living
Montreal
Pros: Cool atmosphere, lots of talent, lots of culture other than music, old city
Cons: French, smaller scene
Toronto
Pros: Large energetic music scene, very busy city (music/art/film), lots of jobs, lots of venues.
Cons: too many musicians (think small fish, big pond), ugly until you get out of GTA (greater toronto area), cutthroat music ind.
Thats all i can think of now.
