My biggest Ableton stage obstacle

Post by ninjalab » Fri Oct 29, 2004 2:19 am

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE using Live onstage... as a performance tool it is imho the ultimate instrument.

The one problem I keep running into is having too many things I want mapped to my computer keyboard.... I get through a song or 2 with the a-z and A-Z keys, but then I'm forced to have another Session ready to be able to trigger more clips.

What I wouldn't give to be able to save 'banks' of Key Maps that I could open from maybe a drop down menu in Live's toolbar at the top...

Other ways of implementing it? I want to be able to reassign all my Key Maps with one or 2 clicks while the music is playing...

One great use of this would be to have different Kay Map banks for each VST Instrument, so that I could have all my knob assigns ready to go for each instrument... that would save a lot of time in the studio, and allow me to use multiple VST Instruments onstage...switch to a different MIDI track, change my Key Map, and off I go with my knobs on the next synth...

One other thing I'm missing is Markers in the arrangement view. I've spent so many extra minutes searching around for sections, wishing I could mark them....yowch.

ninjalab,
you may already know this, but you can also assign the keys to trigger tracks instead of clips. The clips, that are highlighted be the currently selected scene, are triggered.
This way you can just zip up and down the scenes with two keyassignments, and launch clips for your channels.

keys qwertyuiop assigned to ten tracks, keys QWERTYUIOP assigned to ten more tracks, and n and m assigned to scene up/down over 40 scenes equals (10+10)*40=800 - should be enough

-although I have to agree, we can always use more key assignments 8)

cheers!

I am really, really hoping for a workaround for this soon. I have an X-keys controller with 58 keys, and I'm currently not able to map all of them : (. I'm planning to purchase a 128 key verstion when it comes out next spring too (I play live like a big soundboard on my radio show) and it would be REALLY helpful to be able to send CTRL-ALT-SHIFT commands to trigger samples. Traktor does this.
