Automation simplification on autofilter

If I attempt to record automation information for the Autofilter cut-off, I can see the data being recorded.

When I finish recording however, the data becomes simplified - only changes in direction are recorded, so I get a series of simple triangles.

Obviously this destroys all my hard, careful, detailed work and leaves me with a different sound.

Has anyone else come across this? I've had it in Ableton Live 5, 6 and 7... Does anyone know how to turn it off?
