Laptop, software insurance UK.

Post by Deft Deuce » Wed Sep 17, 2008 12:59 pm

Hi Guys,

I've recently spent a small fortune on new kit and software. Now I'm getting pretty paranoid over a fire in the house, glass of booze droped on it or stolen when gigging...

Are there any insurance companies that specialise in music equipment insurance?

Cheers.

I you only want to insure it while it's in the house then you might well find that it is covered by your existing household policy. Check the small print and if in doubt phone them and ask. You might well be able to add the cover you need for a small extra premium.

I'm with Direct Line and they replaced my Laptop (with a better model) within a few days when I spilled a mug of coffee over it.

Thanks for that - But I was hoping some people on here would have first hand knowledge/experience.

I'm renting so that's unfortunately not an option. Result though on you getting a better model from your claim!

You don't need to have own your house to get contents insurance. I had contents insurance in my last 3 rented properties to cover all our household goods and my music equipment.
When I got my laptop I just phoned them to get it added as a named item, which meant it would be covered wherever I took it against accidental damage as well as theft.

Even a shared house?

I was under the impression that it wouldn't be a problem but when I phoned insurance companies, they all said they would be fine insuring if I shared with one other person but I live with four friends which they said was a no no to insuring me.

This one is work a look. They're new to the musical instrument insurance market, and have a good product range. http://www.newmooninsurance.com/musical/

Endsleigh were pretty good when I got my various insurances with them, although I was a student at the time so the house insurance was slightly insane.

insuring a very large amount of music gear for £35 a year is pretty good though =]
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.
