I wouldn't mind if the GUI was taken to even more minimalistic extremes. I love the current one over the bells and whistles stuff of for example FLStudio or those things that try to emulate hardware on the desktop.

Two things though, if any developer is reading:
1) Could you please experiment with an option to turn of antialiasing for the GUI texts?

2) Detachable windows would be great, but if not, then could we please have some kind of a detachable window where we could group individual parameters from whatever machines we have, so that for example if I'm running three filters and two delays but only tweaking the delay lengths and filter curves, I could choose just those parameters to be represented in a separate floating window that always shows them regardless of which channel or view I'm looking at?

+1 for customised layout. ie. ability to show piano roll and effects together, two piano rolls / waveforms etc (the DJs also want this), mixer and arrangement together and second monitor option. Adjustable fonts would be good too.

-1 for metalic effect surfaces, rivets and fake fans.

How come whenever someone mentions improvements to the GUI, people get all defensive?

Live is never going to look like Reason, so quit worrying!

Nobody is asking that Ableton do the whole "realistic gui" thing. Just a bit more contrast, shading and definition, which would improve the user experience.

+1 for optional re-arrangable elements, and improved multi-monitor support which might stem from this.

-1 for a new GUI, Love it, mostly, as it.

I wish the send/return and browser view hide/show were saved in the set.

-1 for a "fresh look" - the GUI simplicity is great esp when there is a load of stuff going on.

Enhancements, yes, but no to a redesign.

All I want is there to be a background on the clips in the arrangement view then it would be perfect( you can still have the lines showing the grid but just in a different color maybe? )

last year when people were suggesting this i was saying no.
but now lives gui is getting old.. like some one else said every daw has updated the gui at some point..
to the people that dont want it updated why not?
would it be that hard to click on classic view in the preferences.
i really want a new gui, it does matter!

It's the other way round, Logic and Cubase look old and outdated, and so does every other DAW and plug that has gradients, fake 3d knobs, shadows YUCK!

It adds absolutely nothing information wise and it's not easy on the eyes, if you work 18 hour days on tracks you can do with all that game-ish looking CRAP!!!

I agree with djsynchro. The gradients and 3D look don't give you more information, just consume more space. The conservative, simple (but still powerful), intuitive UI design is what made Live so good in the first place. I don't know Logic, but compared to Reason, FruityLoops or Cubase, it's much better.

for me 3D look provides a lot of information because it adds the next dimension to the GUI - the space. good 3D GUI can be more transparent than 2D. It is the same as with audio. You can differentiate sounds in the mix using different methods like colouration (EQ), dynamics (comp), place in panorama (2D) but definitely also by adding depth (delay, reverb, etc.).

all of us love big mixes with great depth with a lot of spacial information and for me these mixes give me much more information while stay very clean and transparent. I hate flat 2D mixes because they are muddy and less transparent...

The impact of static 3D GUI to todays computer performance is almost nothing
