Navigating Session view

Post by southernoutpost » Tue Sep 23, 2008 5:13 am

I have a Axiom 49 controller and i'd like to be able to navigate around individual clips in the session view and trigger them at will.

I know I should setup most of my clips and trigger using scenes, but what f I want to do a quick improv with an individual clip 4 or 5 rows down?

Is there a way to assign up, down, left, right to the controller?

Hope i'm making sense here ;)

Thanks,
Patrick.

Good news and Bad news.

Good news first: It's totally possible to do what you want to do.

Now the bad: I can't tell you how as I can't remember without having Live in front of me. I'll come back later when I do.

2 ways: either you convert the messages of your controller into keystrokes (arrows and return-keys).

Or you use the mackie-controller-surface-emulation-trick. You can set any controller as mackie-controller-surface (or whatever it is called) - then certain midi-messages will allow you to move up, down, left and right on the session grid. There is a post here on the forumthat decribes those specific midi messages.
and an overview of all mackie controll midi mssages here: http://home.comcast.net/%7Erobbowers11/MCMap.htm
