So I have just upgraded to SP3 and I'm running audio through an RME fireface 800. Something doesn't quite sound right (high frequencies where I didn't notice them before, a kick with less bottom etc). I'm aware of the supposed issues with the new firewire drivers and the recommendation to downgrade to the SP1 drivers, is this actually the problem and does it actually work? Any other theories?
The firewire hubs appear to be running at 400mbs, so I'm pretty sure its not the issue of being limited to 100mbs, which requires a SP3 hotfix. The issues are not major glitches or drop-outs, just slight sound differences.
Thanks in advance
Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Audio - Final verdict?
I couldn't understand how SP3 could effect the sound of your audio while using an external (or even internal) soundcard. Do the quick phase invert test to prove it to yourself--take a track that you rendered back in the day with SP2, open in the exact same version of Live with the exact same soundcard, and render it again. Create a new set with two audio tracks, line up the old SP2 rendered song on track 1, and the new SP3 rendered song on track 2. Use the "invert" preset from Live's utility plug-in on one of the tracks, and hit play. Silence means the tracks are completely identical.

I just upgraded after messing about for a whole day trying to get it installed. Finally it it went on in Safe Mode. Now its on I have noticed a few querks - Recycle now asks me for my license key and my anti virus (Avast) tells me that some of my melodyne dlls are trojans. As far as pops and clicks go I am not sure - I thought earlier I was getting them but that might have been just some dodgy audio. I am tempted to roll back to SP2 at this rate.
