Strange sidechain behaviour

I sidechain the kick's track to a lot of Live compressors on other tracks (my not so secret weapon).

But after I've done that on a few tracks, the sidechain input on the compressors start to behave really weird. It doesn't catch every beat but skips some. You also hear this when you solo the sidechain input. Plus the "Audio From" and "GR" meters flash randomly instead of showing the regular pulse you'd expect.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm using Live 7.0.10 on an Intel Mac with 10.5.4
