again with the studio monitor questions...

Post by Phantom Cosmonaut » Fri Sep 26, 2008 5:39 pm

i know there is likely a post around here somewhere, but i cannot find the answers i'm lookin for.

i'm lookin in the 300-500$ price range for powerd studio monitors. i have my selection narrowed down, but i have a question about frequency range/response.

how big of a difference is there between say 56hz-22khz and 45/49 hz - 22khz? i like low end and want good bass mixes, so i'm assuming i should go as low as possible. but given the price range/quality range that i can afford, will it really even be noticeable?

thanks

there is absolutely NO difference as those numbers have no standards or guidelines.

For instance, these lovely JVC brand are even better, going from 40hz to 24khz

and they go IN YOUR CAR, THE BEST PLACE TO WRITE MUSIC! ;)

[edit] i should say there very well might be a difference, but don't trust numbers tossed out at random, better to trust your ears, or at least brands[/edit]

[edit 2] unless those numbers come from the same manufacturer, in whcich case you can safely compare them. In which case my reply is how old are you?? Even if you have young ears, 1:1 odds say that if you were to listen to a 54hz sine wave played by both speakers in a blind test you'd pick "the better one" [/edit]

I have krk rokit rp8's and I have been happy, considering the price they are really good. they sound like 500 dollar speakers instead of 250 (each).

tascam VLX5's are probably the best bang for the buck. FLAT freq response as well as great power.
