I'm hoping someone could give me a solid overview on where .fxp and .fxb files should be stored in OS X in order to make them easily accessible in Live.
For AudioUnits, it seems pretty straighforward: presets should go in ~/Library/Audio/Presets/<synth brand>/<synth name>. Items in that folder ending in .aupreset appear in Live when you click on the disclosure triangle of that synth when viewing in the sidebar.
For VSTs, it's less clear. That same presets folder doesn't appear to work as a destination for .fxp or .fxb files — the disclosure triangles don't ever seem appear on the VST plugin in Live's sidebar. For Macs, is there a consistent location where .fxp and .fxb files should be placed so that they're easily accessible in Live?
Also, wanted to double-check on .fxb editing in Live. Is there a way to save a single patch inside the current .fxb in Live without having to save it down as a completely new .fxb? If not, it seems like I should export all my useful patches out of .fxb files and only deal with .fxp files (if only there was an easy way to access them in Live).
I'm still relatively new to Live, but it's really frustrating that VST / AU patch management is so primitive and clunky. Any suggestions on making this process easier would be appreciated.
Additional notes on AU browsing:
- AudioUnits don't appear to have a dropdown for choosing presets within a bank from the bottom panel, as VST banks do. Anyone experience anything different?
- AudioUnits that use a format other than .aupreset *will* list the preset folders in the sidebar, but *won't* list the presets themselves. This is the case for synths like Zebra.
