I think we already established that he's using the sigmatel onboard chip and ASIO4ALL drivers.

this is what sigmatel says about their chips:

* SigmaTel is not a soundcard manufacturer, we design and produce integrated circuits directly for manufacturers.
* Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to provide drivers to end-user's.
* All end-user technical support, including drivers, should be directed to the product manufacturer.
* If you are unsure of who manufactures the product you are seeking drivers for, please read the packaging and literature that accompanied your product.
* For Windows XP users, an out of the box driver is included with the operating system that supports the SigmaTel codecs.
* For other operating systems, please contact your motherboard manufacturer to obtain the driver.
* For contacts regarding the use or purchase of SigmaTel technologies in your design, please send your request to the email address below.
So...what kind of *laptop* are you using?

Oooh. That is a good computer. Should be well enough specced for you.

Hm - I am afraid I am running out of options. Seems to me the best choice when using a laptop would always be a USB or FireWire unit but of course that comes at a price.
