On windows, it happens that a driver prevents the Live process to be killed. Turn OFF or disconnect your MIDI controller/sound card, and the Live process should vanish.

Live won't kill it's self..on exit (RANT)
Hi,Incy wrote:ZOMG! yes. on either my pc or laptop, if i've been running Live for a few hours, it won't close normally; it will crash.
That is to say, when I save and close, Live will only die after spamming End Task several times. It's like I have to choke it to death.
This has happened consistently on XP SP2; I don't remember if it happened on my Win2K, i want to say yes.
So fix this Ableton.
I'd contact [email protected], about this. It is slightly different: we're talking here about a reason why the Live process doesn't go away because of USB devices drivers. Live crashing on quit after a few hours of use sounds like a different problem. Write to support, providing the info asked for on that page:

Regarding Windows Task Manager for killing processes - it's useless. This is much better:

I'll inquire about this on M-Audio's forum if it is.
As for the problem I'm talking about, no, it's not related to M-audio. It happens with other brand devices.

hey Amaury! Can you recall the first version of live that had this problem. I would like to know what version I could go back to until we get these problems fixed. I don't recall having any issues with live 6. Maybe I'll try there and see. All though I thinks maybe I ran out of unlocks for 6.
on another note, man I can't believe what horrible luck I'm having with this program. urrr I'm frustrated!!!

As far as I can recall, it happened with all versions of Live, at least 5, 6, 7, and again, this plus other facts lead to think it's more of a Windows/driver problem (windows not terminating some connection when the Program crashes) than a Live specific problem.
But the bottom line is: do you have that many crashes with Live? Please contact support, they surely can help you.
