Appreciate some help with Novation SL Remote 61 key

Post by swiffy » Mon Oct 06, 2008 2:20 pm

am using the remote sl 61 key, and Live 7/Reason 4. Using Live 7 presets 1 & 2, aren't the controls supposed to be already automapped? Meaning if I go to Live preset 1 or 2 and hit the record button, the record button on Live 7 lights up. Like using the MPD 32 Live preset, as soon as you hit the record buttons or other transport controls they light up in live. Is that with the presets I have to manually assign certain parameters using the SL.

know when using the Live presets I can manually assign the transport controls, but I don't want to do that. I thought using the presets everything would be assigned already. I guess only in the "Automap Ableton template" (40) I can move the faders and the transport controls that correspond with live. While the presets for Live (1&2) are for manually doing them. Also, why is that everytime you turn on Live the Novation jumps to Automap Live template? Is thier any other things I should make sure are checked when using the SL remote. I only so far just changed the midi in and out ports in the midi sync part in preferences. Any help is appreciated. Thanks...

If you want to use it for VSTs only, have to use Automap universal which works on port 3. If you want to use mixer functionality have to use classic Automap -no.40 ( which is more reliable, never had slightest problem).
Live prefferences> midi>select remote ports 2 in out.
Reason normally uses port 2 which is OK with Cubase or Nuendo but since Live does not work that way as yet you will have to set Reason differently if you want to use them rewired and using both If it does not matter then just deselect SL in Live or reason otherwise there will be mess if they work on same port.
There is option to use both but you have to change some settings in the Reason automap .
Keep Live set as it is but change the Reason ports to 3. Then on SL click template edit ,
set keyboardPort to CommonPort
and ComPort to U3,
press write3x and you ready to use both Live and Reason while rewired. Reason loads instantly, Live can take couple of seconds
Advisable copy the reason template to 39 so they are a click away.
Would never advise it for stage but it is fine for studio.

Hi, I saw you posted in another thread about Reason, Automap, and Live, and I was just wondering what you think the optimal setup would be for stage with Reason and Live.
