Another thing I have started doing...
Is open up ableton and reason on my laptop while in bed. Write a rough sketch. Use the synths in reason etc.

Then if i like it and think it could be something, take it to my main machine and tweak the shit out of it. Replace the reason synths with my nordlead etc.

So basically.. rought sketch with shitty software synths.
Then get ready to rock on your prefered setup.

Hardly use compression....

With todays software, it is so easy to control volume with envelopes if you are not a lazy boy. You can run through your whole track, balance all volume, hardly use compression, and at days end you will have a fatter track, with an overall higher bit quality.

Soaring high's, milky mids, rolling bass...

--

1) I compress my kicks n snares.....

2) This theory may not work if you are recording acoustic instruments.
too many lasers...

To decrease mud, Hi-pass your reverb and delays.

Bang your roommate's sister then tell him about it, when your remixing a track with him....oh, wait that's not dirty its just plan wrong........sad but true story btw.

Only use guitars if its a full moon, and you have a midget in the studio. Its be best way to really get a great track started in no time.

:D thanks for that cool tip, makes a lot of sense. I can't believe I have never considered that all this time.

yeah, shame reason won't output midi via rewire. That would allow us to make our reason tracks and assign them to infinite 3rd party synths......

reverse your sample. run it through a reverb. record the reverb. reverse the reverb sample and make your sample play forward. then put the reversed reverb before the sample.

if you don't know how to do this yet, god help you.

I sold my Nord Lead because I thought most "shitty software synths" sounded much better.

Still, I agree, composing in bed is cool.

First.. hello fellow irish citizen

Second.. Some people just cant bare software but whatever you feel comfortable with is best for you. I myself am a synth junkie (i have two virtual analog synths  ) lol. They may be digital but they still have that dirty feel to them.

Third.. I just realised, this is a good thread.
