what is your main reason for wanting it to change?
I just want to have unwarped clips play in a loop as in any other software, regardless of the song tempo.
Plus, warping is prone to artifacts. So another reason to leave the file as it is when no changes in tempo are required.
but this is what I'm talking about you CAN
you can manually override the seg.BPM in the warp settings and type in the exact number of the set tempo and warping will be disabled, even if the warp button is lit up - Live will not warp if the clip tempo and set tempo are the same and there are no extra warp markers - as confirmed by Ableton more than once on these forums

when the song tempo equals the clip tempo and
the 'Fade' button is switched off.

tempo-independant looping is already possible in Live; As long as your loops are cropped for looping, just use re-pitch mode, and set the loop start & end points to the actual sample start/end. this ensures there's no snapping to the beat. then, as forge says, meddle with the seg.BPM to tune the loops in to the project, or speed them up/down as you wish, completely independant of the master tempo.

Thanks a lot, not that big a problem with a workaround.
Another issue - Live auto-warps anything I record, no matter how I set the preferences?

that's weird - sounds a bit like a bug - I guess you have 'auto warp long samples' turned off?

Yes, of course.

that's true - but of course it's not much use in a live situation where you may be looping some ambience over the top of a jump from 140 BPM to 125 BPM .. then you will hear the ambience start to go "bleargh"
this is because your ambience may have the "typed in" master BPM, but when the master bpm changes it all goes to shit. And this being Live - it's all about "when the master BPM changes"
they need to allow loops on unwarped samples

Hadn't tried the suggestion - if it's like you say, there isn't in fact a workaround? 'Cause I do tend to change master BPM.
That sucks.

yeah - I did mention that scenario before as the only reason I could think of it might be needed, and I guess as it's not something I've ever done I'm not really highly aware of the need, it didn't seem like a scenario that might come up that often as I figured if you were playing ambiet recordings then you wouldn't need to worry about tempo anyway
but yeah I guess you could be playing it over a beat that is tempo locked

yeah these workaround are really just that-
work arounds....this has def been on the feature wishlist for sometime i believe...
looping without warping should be a doable thing.

Then wouldn't I have to trigger Simpler continuously or set up some midi input to it?

just create a midi clip on the simpler track and draw in an infinitely held note to trigger the looped sample...
the note's looping section is inbetween the start and the end of the note, which keeps the note held forever until you stop the clip.
now you can midi- or key-learn the clip itself to switch it on and off. try using 'toggle' in the clip's launch mode box.

Thanks a lot for recommendaing that work-around. I may get to use it in the future, but right now I'm thinking it's too much hassle to set up a Simpler track just to play an unwarped clip.
