Best interface for guitar
Best interface for guitar
Hi,
apologies if this has been done to death.
But what would be the best interface to record though ableton for guitar with regard low latency levels. My budget would be no more than about £100.
Cheers

I like Amplitude. Some like Guitar Rig. There are others as well. The best option is putting a mic in front of an amp.
Gig Rig - rMBP 2.3GHZ i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, OSX 10.13.x, Presonus FS, Live 10.x
Home Rig - i9 eight-core Hackintosh 32GB DDR4, 2nd Generation Scarlett 18i20, ADA8000, JoeMeek SixQ, Live 10.x

I know NI just came out with the GR3 "SESSION" package that comes with its own interface. Never tried it yet though...

Cheers for all the advice. I think i've been barking up the wrong tree because ive been looking at firewire interfaces on ebay but you all seem to be suggesting things that connect via usb which leads me to....
things is that ive got a line 6 pod xt which should connect to my pc shouldnt it?
Is this a bit out of date now or would this still be good. I tried connecting it to my old computer but couldnt get any sound but maybe i should try again.
any suggestions very welcome, thanks again

spend time with the manual, there's a TON of features you're missing out on with the PodXT. I don't know how you can't get sound out of it. did you turn the knob labeled 'volume' on it? did you plug headphones into it or use the line out to connect to your speakers?
gearbox, Line6 Monkey, all the online support...
with the Tonelocker you can browse tones online, click on it, in 2 seconds your Pod has the preset loaded, if you like it save it.
it also acts as a sound card.
how much did you spend on that box? forget the other options you have the best one, IMO. stealth plug is very compact, great for taking the electric to the park with the laptop or travelling, a little latency. getting your tone through the computer is a bad idea, there's latency, computers crash, keep it all out of the box. IMO.

You see Tone,
I'm in this dad rock band and we're all too old and stupid to work anything vaguely modern out:-one minute its all spinning leslies and throbbing hammonds and then suddenly the worlds gone mad with crazy digital beat combos.
The pod xt was our singers but hes gone acoustic in favour of concentrating on vocals and insisted i use the pod in the band which i do:-hard choice i know. Hes got the line six monkey installation disc but it always asks for registration details which he lost/threw away years ago.
Anyway i'm wondering if failure to register it is whats holding me back. At the moment I'm using my poor keyboard skills on reason but really need to combine that with guitar through ableton to fully realise my 'sound.'
But thank you for your help:-nice writing style by the way.
Tone... Tone...Tone....what are we gonna do?

you should definetly try to use the pod. A new low latency interface will be way more expensive than 100 quid.
Guitar rig or other amp-simulation software eats a lot of cpu, so if you have a weak computer or if you are using other stuff in ableton (and not only record guitar) the pod should be a good solution. You should be ble to use it without registering, isn't it like this?
Anyway, the registration code should be on the box. If the box is missing maybe the shop can help or write a mail to the customer service of line6 ...

my father in law is in a dad rock band with the other teachers at school, I got him a Pocket Pod, he's in the same boat with the computer thingies.
I just thought it was funny, someone was asking which bus to take to ToneLand mentioning they have a Mustang in the garage.
I'm not a fan of editing that thing by hand, but it's all about tapping the button under 'amp 'stomp' etc twice then paging through the settings with the knob on the left, tweaking them with the knob on the right (I think, this is from memory.)
for the serial number, here's a thread that talks about it being on the unit itself:
http://line6.com/support/thread.jspa?th ... tstart=119
I think it's also in the manual.
the GUI is GREAT, makes it VERY easy to edit all the settings and get tons of new tones.
good luck! it's a great box.
