Problem recording realtime audio on extra HDD

Hello folks,
I'm having a hard time recording realtime audio with LIVE.
Very often I jam along some basic ideas in Clip/Scene mode so that I can
cut some nice loops from my own playing. However, as long as I record onto the system disk, where LIVE is installed, no problems whatsoever.
But since this HDD is a bit slow, I'd like to record onto my dedicated Audio/Projects HDD, wich is on a separate ATA controller. And this doesn't work at all.
As soon as I engage the record button, or try to record in Clip Mode, the whole audio engine is slowing down very badly and audio is stuttering like hell.

Here's my PC setup btw:

IDE0 20GB System(dual boot/2Part-XP Pro+Music/XP Pro+Net-Office),
IDE1 15GB HD Swap file&personal data + CD-RW/DVD Samsung,
IDE3 (ATA133 Adapt.) WD 80GB/7200/2MB Projects,
IDE4 (ATA133 Adapt.) WD 80GB/7200/8MB,Samples and disk streaming VSTi's,

Running in "Standard PC" Mode (APIC Enabled)

Cubase SX 2.2.35
HALion 2.0.3.5
Reason 2.5
Ableton Live 4.04

I did a clean system install yesterday (after imaging my system for later restauration) to try to solve this problem, but in vain.
I've tried with the standard Microsoft IDE drivers as well as with VIA BUS MASTER IDE Controller, it's about the same.

No way to record onto those 2 drives (IDE 3+4). Those ATA133 controllers are Onboard devices of the Mobo btw.
I have my music system (Music Only, NO Bullsh*t, Anti-anything, network, whatever) stripped down to a bare minimum,
with almost no services running, no IRQ conflicts. Every device in my PC has it's own IRQ, Audio cards get IRQ 3+5.
Other Onboard devices and unused ports etc. are deactivated in the BIOS. Cubase and other apps run extremely well on my system usually,
LIVE being the only one causing me grief.

If someone could look into this, I'd be extremely thankful for that.
Maybe someone has a similar setup to compare with?

A friendly bump.

Could it be that Live has problems recording on SCSI devices, as the drives on IDE 3+4 appear as such?

Well, I have ordered a new, fast HDD to circumvent the problem, wich will require reauthorization of many VSTi's and LIVE (all Challenge/Response protected apps) because of a change of system components

Disappointed for not getting any support (via email neither!).

Well, just to let you know:

Live 4 definately doesn't like my RAID/ATA133 controller (onboard, Promise PDC20276 with latest driver).

Bought a new HDD and rearranged the connection order of all the disks (4 in total), still having only ONE HDD per IDE controller/connector to have them run as fast as possible.
So now I can again record on my dedicated projects drive.

And having taken out one HDD, after restoring the images of my system I didn't have to reauthorize all my VSTi's, apparently it was looking the same to the system as before. Thanks to god

Maybe this will help someone else???

just wondering,
i'm running 2 seagate 'cudas SATA 133 in Raid 0
on projects with more than 20 tracks and some plugs
i'm getting the "red D" quite a bit.
i can remedy this with consolodation and sending to RAM.
but i shouldn't be having this problem so often.

do upgrade to 10 000 rpm drives or re- configure my current ddrives?

Cheers dpel,
try reconfiguring your HDD's first. I don't know how LIVE performs on a RAID system, my HDD's (although on a RAID controller) are always working in ATA mode.
I had my system drive on IDE 1 with 2 partitions (Dual-Boot system),
on IDE 2 another small drive for personal data and Page file,
and on the 2 ATA controllers one HDD on each for Samples and the other for projects.
So I've changed my system drive now for a fast disk (80GB WD), 3 partitions (Dual-Boot + a backup partition), and put my projects HDD on IDE 2. ATA 1 still holds my sample HDD and ATA 2 now my personal files and page file.
Seems to work a lot better now, no more slow down of the audio engine in Live when recording.
