Apple store currently being updated-Hmmm :-)

Post by earthloop » Tue Oct 14, 2008 2:27 pm

Just visited the Apple Store website here in Oz (Tuesday 14th, 10.22 p.m.) where they are 'busy updating it for us', and will 'be back soon!'

Now I wonder what that could mean!!! 8)

They are running complex algorithms which work out what is the maximum they can charge for over-rated machines with badly made chinese parts so that people will still buy them.

Are you sure you're talking about Apple, and not Gateway, or HP, or Compaq, or Dell?

...but wait, there's more...

10:30 PT: "We can do everything [the DVI port] can do, and at a fraction of its size. We're building it to everything we make. It's going to be the first MacBook Pro with a Solid-State Drive option. And you can acess the drive and the battery from a door on the bottom." Full accessibility to the battery and drive from that lower bay!

10:29 PT: Slot-load superdrive on right side. Left side, MagSafe, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 800, dual USB 2 connectors, Mini Display Port. "This is what we're going to for all video out for all of our products." Audio in and out, both analog and optical digital, an ExpressCard 34 slot, and the battery indicator is on the side "so you don't have to turn your product upside-down."

Sweet, this is great news. Been looking forward to some kind of significant upgrade to the MBP for a long while now. Thanks for the head's up!

New stuff looks like it's dropped. Neat, but nothing I'm going to replace my current Macbook with.

Yes you can run firewire 400 devices off of 800 inputs you just need a 4pin firewire to 6pin cable. Do not be the first ones to buy the computer wait until someone else can confirm if they are using texas instruments controllers for the firewire. The dual video card thing is wiked. When they release snow leopard for example they could program the onboard video card to take care of basic graphics for the operating system and leave the second card for processing things like synths etc

It's not THAT revolutionary.

SSD harddrives have been available as options in some PC laptops for a year or more.

Some more memory and L2 cache, well nice to see that Apple have gotten past that bundle 512MB ram with our laptops and charge a fortune for anyone upgrading their ram through us.

What would have been revolutionary would be quad core processing, or a terabyte of RAM with all of it accessible at once instead of 4MB, or 3 firewire 800 ports (texas instruments returns instead of the chinese crap) which are not IRQ conflicted or sharing USB on the system bus etc.

I like Macs and the Macbook but this is a minor update rather than a revolutionary one.
