So, how is making music on Vista these days? Sigh...I might just go with a pc once my warranty runs out on my mac book. I really like OSX, but I really can't imagine spending 1999 for a laptop with firewire. Maybe microsoft has become the new apple. Or better yet one can only hope that google might join the game.

C'mon now, MBpros will come out soon with all manner of features and you'll dump MB like she was never there

Actually they already did come out. I just have always prefered the mac book amateur over the pro. I'd rather spend the extra thousand on a guitar than a better video card.

I know people who do this on desktops but not laptops.

Oh well. I already knew my next laptop was going to be a Lenovo.
I'm there with you, but probably a used Panasonic Toughbook. Within the next three years I plan to switch to Linux, and a laptop that's built to last 10 years.
You are a man of excellent taste. Damn hard to get your paws on a recent Toughbook around here, though.

I could (almost) understand if Apple got rid off the firewire port and included an extra usb 2.0 port.

Native ports are huge for us audio guys.

They might. There was one iteration of the MBP that had no firewire 800 port on it, & the next gen had it replaced. Hope springs eternal!

OOOH! Let's do it!

I propose we start a letter/email campaign demanding apple add FW to the next gen. macbooks. Maybe to add FW 400 back on the MBP's, too?

I'm guessing that 90% of people are fine with USB 2 and don't even know the difference, much less give a rat's ass about FW 800.

I really thought Apple would drop FW once a new faster USB spec would be released, but not beforehand....

I think most camcorders are now USB 2, so it really just hits musicians and people with firewire-only gear the hardest.

Next product line to get this hit will likely be iMacs, so I would give Apple some feedback!

Other than this flaw, I think that they are quite nice and will sell like hot cakes, just not to musicians...

Owell - maybe USB 2 audio devices will get better??? (828 MkII, AudioBox, etc...)

Not like there are any good/affordable expresscard options at all...
GO VEGAN!!! - Macbook Air, Bass Station II, Some Korg shit, Live Suite, U-He, Audio Damage, Microtonic, Ohmicide, more soft stuffs, awesome controllers, euro rack modular synth,an awesome cat.

I'm in! Even though I'm a MBP chap, & don't really miss the firewire 400 port since I only use firewire 800, I'll lend my voice to the chorus to help fight the good fight for my firewire 400 brethren.

What really pisses me off is that stupid glossy screen & reflective black border!

To use some vintage American slang 'Apple pulled a boner'!
